Well Escapist, I'm ill.

You'd think I'd be getting some rest, taking some painkillers or eating healthy. Instead I'm sitting here on my computer having watched Pitch Black and V for Vendetta and now simply searching for something to do, the idea being to try to help me ignore the fact that I'm ill. Unfortunately my illness means that it hurts a lot every time I swallow. So I got thinking about how unpleasant my current situation is but more importantly - ever the optimist - I started thinking about worse times I've been ill.

The worst I can remember is when I had have had flu. I always get a fever, but if I don't control it, I end up hallucinating and I always picture a giant boot treading on my windpipe. I feel unable to breathe and it is always the greatest fear I ever experience. I mean "literally burst into tears and start screaming like somebody in a horror film" kind of fear. Irrational I know, but that's how I respond. Although I've certainly been more ill than that, it's my worst.

Anyway, I'm interested in what your worst experience when ill is, if you would care to recount it...

my sister thinks it's funny to jump on me while I try to sleep, while I'm sick.

I've gotten a migraine headache, and one of the side effects was me not being able to see.
Combined with crippling pain.

My worst moment was during a bout of the flu. And I don't mean the sort of nasty head cold that people call flu - the real fucking deal with the fevers and the vomiting.

Oh, the vomiting.

I was asleep in bed, sick as anything, woke up in a panic but was too weak and disorientated to move so threw up in the bed.

And because I lived alone there was no one who could help me so while shivering and sweating and heaving, with shaky knees and aches in every part of my body I had to change sheets and clean up and manage some sort of sponge bath and...eurgh it was about the most horrible moment of my life.

Was that a nasty enough moment for you?

I hear you, buddy.

I'm prone to sinus infections, and when this happens, every once in awhile there'll be so much mucus in my throat that after laying down for a long time it'll plug up my windpipe and I will not be able to breath at all, and I have to pretty much hack up my own lung to keep from suffocating. Terrifying AND gross. Can't lay flat on my back for days after that happens.

Worst i had a caught a illness and it gave me a huge fever, i started hallucinating, I thought I was covered in millions of spiders and they were biting me, when my mum run in I had scratched chunks of my skin off and blood was everywhere, she said it was the most terrifying thing she had ever seen and I got rushed to hospital for 2 weeks until the antibiotics got rid of the problem

I've been feeling ill today too so I can sympathise. Worst luck on a Saturday of all days. I've spent most of my time today checking the time when I can take my next painkiller, lozenge, drink of Lemsip, etc. I had to take a phone call a while ago and my voice was fine one moment, then got all hoarse and squeaky the next. Really embarrasing.

Had the swine flu once.

NOT FUN.

That said, I'm probably immune to it, now, anyway. =P

Gastroenteritis. I had a moment where I couldn't decide which end to hang over the toilet. I thought I could get away with the vomit first and then quickly sit down. Nope, I failed......badly. Lack of any food for days and the inability to do anything but curl up on the floor meant things went badly.

Two words, hot slurry!

I had a pretty bad headache while sitting in class. It eventually started hurting everywhere in my body until I went limp and numb. So I ended up sitting with my neck hanging over the back of my chair, mouth open, staring at the ceiling hallucinating for about 6 minutes. When I finally came to, my massive headache was even more massive and I had drooled on myself. The weirdest thing was nobody noticed. After that I was scared to even stand up. I have no idea what my illness was, to this day.

I'm going through it right now. I'm undergoing chemotherapy for blood cancer and it is the toughest thing I have ever done. Combine that with a lowered immune system causing a near-fatal C-Dif infection and its taking everything I have to make it through this.

I think my worst was when I had a sickness that made my mouth really hurt, mainly coughing and swallowing. Well guess what, it also caused me to both cough a lot and produce a lot of saliva. It was so painful I ended actually spitting a lot of my drool into a cup... I'm serious when I say by the end of the day I filled an entire cup full of drool. And that lasted for like four days. It was so embarrassing to spit into a cup every twenty seconds to stop the pain.

Probably the worst for me would have been when: It was the middle of summer; I caught swine flu, from where i don't know from where, and i was in bed for a week and during this time when i am sick and in pain, is when my girlfriend at the time decides to break up with me ... so that wasn't too fun.

Woke up with a fever today and i could barely breathe or swallow because of how sore my throat was. Supposedly i went sobbing into my mum's room like a 4 year old with snot dripping into my mouth and was barely able to stand. She gave me some prescription painkillers that her boyfriend has for his operation pains and now i'm just really numb and mellow. Oh yeah, and i get migraine headaches but somehow the headache i had now is much worse. Feels literally like my head is going to explode when there's not some painkiller in my system. If you get migraines i'm sure you can sympathise.

I had pneumonia and nearly died. My brother found me lying on the floor in the bathroom with blood streaming out of my mouth. I had to spend ages in the hospital.

I once got so sick that I totally lost my appetite. I couldn't eat at all for several days; not even a sandwich. Imagine the hunger I felt once I recovered.

My worst moment of illness would have to be when I got really sick in class and had to go lie down in the sick room. I had just managed to fall asleep when I was forced awake by vomit lodged in my throat. So I get up and try to make it to the bathroom but the second I leave the damn bed I puke all over the place and it's all over me and the walls and some spattered the ceiling. I finally manage to get out and puked all over the office in my attempt to reach the bathroom and then I finally made it. Lol that was the worst day of life... almost.

Well, that's an easy one.

It was the day of my chess championship, but I suffered from some food poisoning and threw up 6 times before 6 a.m, and another 6 times before noon.

Lots of Sprite got me through that day single-handedly.

One day, I was miserable. Nothing good happened and I felt like crap. Later that night, I felt a small stomach pain. Probably nothing.

The next day, I am writhing in pain. It hurts to move and getting out of bed is an unimaginable task. It's thought to be a simple stomachache and nothing more.

Thursday, the pain is even worse. Every action hurts. I go to a clinic where after a simple rundown, they need to do a bunch of tests. I am incredibly confused, but go along anyway. Sometime later I learn what's going on.

My appendix has burst.

Brought to the hospital and before even settling into a room, I'm off to emergency surgery. I spend the next three days in the hospital where getting up, walking, and coughing might as well be worth a medal for how painful they are.

The best part? You know what a friend told me right before this happened when I felt so miserable?

"It could be worse".
