And I thaught no one else had even heared of that game before. I got my login name from that. I disagree with you, though. The worst part of that game was that it required a much, much better system than was the norm to operate. I had it for years before I had a computer that could play it!

Ocarina of Time: Water Temple. Seriously,
In the big tower in the middle where you raise the water, I found it hard to notice how one of the blocks lifted with the water, thus revealing a hole.
I wasn't very old at the time, but I almost gave up on it.
Now I usually call people pansies when they say the whole water temple part was really hard, but that I agree with. You'd never find that unless you went scouring. Which you did once you hit that dead end. It's caught me out on a few of my subsequent playthroughs even.

Keeping with Zelda, Majora's mask had collecting eggs, which wasn't much fun at all, particularly with the giant eels. Wind waker had those bloody fetch quests for the triforce pieces where they obviously cut a dungeon or two, and Twilight princess had the Hyrule castle sewer sections. So boring...

Legend of Zelda Wind Waker. The having to go to Tingle and pay to decipher Triforce Charts, The one girl you have to get 20 butterfly bracelets(mostly due to the fact that I sold all of mine before that scene).

Legend of Dragoon - goofy translations. Everything is "technically" correct, it just doesn't feel right. They say "Shoot!" but they're all adults and they could get away with "Damn!" or "Oh, hell!"

In any sandbox game - any racing game involving vehicles, tacked onto the game to pad out extra stuff to do in the game. 9 times out of 10 the vehicle portions feel about as easy to control as a stick of button on a hot skillet- now you want me to go FASTER? Guilty parties include GTA4 and Saint's Row 2.

Speaking of Greased... Ice Levels. All of them. I HATE ice levels. Game programmers- this doesn't add any challenge - it is just a way to annoy the shit out of your players. Guilty parties include all modern Mario and Zelda games, N64 on up.

And finally, one that is rapidly growing for me - games that have minor enemies or areas in a game where you are confronted by a horde of enemies that turn out to be harder than ANY of the games bosses. Guilty parties include Dead Space, Borderlands and presently Darksiders (not one of the best games ever - but it's what in my game tray right now).

Dude. That was where I was stuck for about a month. And I was in grade eight.

Cortana + The Library (basically any time the Flood show up)

Oblivion - The levelling that punished you for levelling up
The first thing I thought of was Oblivion's leveling. So to add on to that, Oblivion's leveling where early enough everybody in Cyrodiil got a hold of Daedric Armor, supposedly the rarest armor with the souls of freaking daedra in it!!! How are you supposed to feel awesome and distinct if even the bandits have the same looking gear as you? You stand out more wearing boxer shorts...

Also, good point about the Flood. Every single flood level became "Shoot at boring, generic zombie rip-offs with absolutely not character so we make a giant Piranha Plant to lead them in the second and third games."

Thus, every time I would see that Flood overlord I would think back to Mario and a veracious plant, so now I equate Flood with vegetables (Specifically broccoli).

Also, Zelda, Mario, pretty much any game: WATER LEVELS!!! Not because of difficulty, but because I find them simply annoying and too similar. The best one I remember was Bomberman 64 because it was more of a "By the water" level, since you couldn't swim.

Oblivion in Oblivion. The "too hard" parts of COD4 and WaW (Heat level, I'm looking at you). Losing your powers in Prototype.

True but Ivy pissed me off more.
Poison Ivy was a bit annoying but I was too hyped finishing the game.

I had to finish the Library in Co-Op by myself... oh the horror...
Seriously, the Library is a terrible mission.

One of my favorite games of all times is Final Fantasy IV, but there's two spots that almost make me stop playing every time I get to them.

The Dark Elf cave is frustrating, as you can't use any metal equipment on the way in or that character is paralyzed for the fight...and that cave just turns into a big run-from-all-battles-fest...which doesn't bode well for making sure you're at the level you need to beat the Dark Elf.

The other spot is Luca's Cave in the underworld. Every door you try to go through is a Trap Door monster that begins each battle by randomly killing one of your party, and half the doors lead to empty rooms, but the treasures are so good (one sword for Cecil is WAY stronger than the one you have to go in with) that you HAVE to either have the order memorized or just fight every one.
