I have a pretty good laptop that can play most of the current generations games, however the ones i want the most are exclusive to consoles. Im considering whether or not its worth buying an Xbox 360 for Fable 2 and/or buying a ps3 for the God of war series.

I'd really only be buying for the exclusives as most other games are also offered for PC and I prefer it on my more portable laptop.

I have fable 1 for the PC and really enjoyed the Morality feature in the game. Ive been waiting for a Fable 2 PC port since the game was released, but now 2 years later theres still no word on a release. No spoilers please..but is the game as good as im expecting it to be? Is it worth buying the entire system for it?

Ive heard only good things about the God of war franchise and might go this route if I dont go for fable 2. Then again both consoles are fairly old at this point, and I read many games look better on the pc these days, so I'd only be doing it for the exclusives. Its worth pointing out that my game play in fable 1 lead me to realize the joys of an evil bad ass, and whos more evil and bad ass than the Kratos?

Lastly I might buy neither the xbox or the ps3 and just dig around for good pc games. Im looking for quality RPGs with morality systems. Doing research Ive stumbled upon Elder Scrolls Oblivion, Mass effect 1 and 2, fallout 3, bioshock 1 and 2 and dragons age origins.

I havent played any of these games, so maybe i should just save money and go though these first on my pc? If I go this route which ones should I play first?

What would you guys do?
Recommendations?
a) I'm not an X360 expert since I don't have one, but I can tell something about PS3. Yeah, as many people said before me - Console for one game only is not a good idea with current PS3 price. But PS 3 is not only God of War (which is kickass btw). MGS 4 is a great game, if you don't mind long cutscenes (and I mean VERY LONG ones) between the action. InFamous is pure sandbox fun wit electricity, Little Big Planet is really good, Resistance: Fall of Man is a decent shooter, which really starts showing it's teeth in split-screen co-op campaign, And of course Heavy Rain, which is currently my favorite game ever. Since you like RPG's, I bet you like the games with good story, so HR should really appeal to you.

In short - no, don't buy PS3 for GoW III. Buy it for GoW III and couple of other great games.

b) Good RPG with morality system? The Witcher has IMO the best morality system in RPG's ever. Try also Star Wars: KotOR I and KotOR II. Classic of the RPG genre.

If you are interested in only one game, that's a definite no.
If you really want that one game and wouldn't mind playing some other titles, that's a definite yes.
Hell, I bought a PS3 for Heavy Rain but, before that came out, I greatly enjoyed MGS4, Killzone 2 and Uncharted.

Really it depends on how much money you have and/or make. If you make a comfortable living, why not drop $400 on something you want? I did :), bought a PS3 for Demon's Souls. Now that I've owned the PS3 for a bit, there are a bunch of games on it that I have played and want to play, so it works out.

Do not buy a whole console for Fable 2 however. I love the idea, but the game itself just isn't good enough for that.

If you do decide to just hang back with your PC, Fallout 3 and Oblivion are AWESOME and need to be played!

It is not worth it to buy a whole console for one game. It is worth it to be influenced by one, and then later buy more games that you have searched up before buying it, that you know you'll enjoy.

Also, Fable 2, in my opinion, was infinitely worse than the first one. I adored the first one, but the second seemed so...meh.

But God of War is awesome, especially taking into consideration you can play the whole trilogy on the PS3.

To answer the question in this thread's title: Generally not.

Of course, chances are you'll find other games for that system that'll interest you.

OR...that one game you plan to buy the console for would have to kick so much ass for you to think, "To hell with all the other games out there, this is the one game for me!!"

But I wouldn't count on that to happen...it's not that likely.

Well Fable 3 is on it's way, so if you bought a 360 you'd get fable 2 to play while you wait for fable 3. As the gent above mentioned Fable 2 is lacking in some ways compared to the original, but as I've said many times before, the sequal rarely lives up to the original. That being said, I got a master clockwork pistol that I was very happy with, and it's nice that collecting rent isn't a huge pain in the ass anymore, and neither is getting more property (you know you had to kill the owners in the original fable to buy the land, which I did on oakvale which made me smile). All in all I wouldn't complain about it. And if Fable 3 is a interesting as it sounds it'll make up for fable 2, and I will make paligamy legal.

On the other hand if you got a PS3 for the god of war games (personally hate them) you also get a console that offers free online play, so if you were to get another game that had online you wouldn't have to pay them monthly fees to go online. Also they don't do that stupid point system mircosoft does for DLC, just enter a credit card and pay exact. Lastly gamerscores annoy me personally, just shows how much time and money you have.

As you can tell by the text size difference, my vote is for the PS3, it's nice, has a large amount of data space, an data install function for some games, free online, and is generally more powerful than a 360, and has a good line up of games. Don't get me wrong, I'm no sony fan boy as I also have a 360, but if I have to leave for a few weeks for some reason and I'll be staying at the same place that whole time, I usually bring my PS3 over my 360.

Fable 2 was (in my opinion) an awful game. All the good points of Fable were taken out and left you with just the rubbish. It was like making a pot of spagetti only to drink the wheat water you removed when you strained it. Same could be said of Bioshock 2. I was hoping it would live up to the reputation of the first, but it lacked good story, and left you with more questions than answers. Mix that with no change at ALL in combat and you are left with a speargun as the only part of the game that made me smile. It's a rent at best.

Now I fell in love with oblivion. I bought the PC version, didn't have the specs to play it, and then bought the 360 version. Hours and hours of fun. Mastering the bow, learning how to create the perfect spell, the danger of parrys and melee. If your laptop can run it, go for PC version. Same for Fallout 3. Oblivion's hotter younger sister. Play oblivion first, because you will never look at her the same after fallout3. Ive clocked more time playing Fallout then I think Ive spent talking to women. Immersive to the point of starvation.

Mass effect 1 and 2...
Not bad. Both had a fun story, fun characters, fun combat and skills. Both different enough from the other to make playing both reasonable. If theres PC version though, go pc

Dragon Age. Fun in a nostalgic Aidyn Chronicles way. I didnt play for long, I dont have the patience for a game like that. Mostly my FPS history dissolving my desire to read text. But I digress, unless fallout3 is unusable on your laptop, THAT is the only game I would suggest shelling out for a 360. No other game.

Fable 2 was awful.

If It's out for the PC go and get it for the PC.

Ahh, I remember the only reason I bought and Xbox360 was to just play Saints Row 2 and eventually I bought more games for it.

So if you plan on getting more games for it then why not?

It is when the system is a DS and you want, for example, Pokemon. I sold 2 DS Lite's preowned today to people who wanted to play the new Pokemon. They paid £89.99 for the console and game, so it's worth it then.

When the console is a PS3, and prices, even for preowned ones, start not much shy of £200, then it's not really worth it for one game. However, if you find a few games you might be interested in, then it can quickly become worth it.

Back in the day I bought a PS1 solely to gorge my brain on the visual beauty of Final Fantasy VII, which had just come out. The fact that it had the largest library of games out of all the systems at the time was a perk, and a nice one.

The 360 has an enormous library of stuff but is a Microsoft product, so YMMMV. The PS3 is just coming into its own and finally getting decent games, in addition to being able to pull double duty as a Blue Ray player. The Wii is great for parties, and chicks dig it (yes, this is a definite perk, just so you know)

A laptop.... well, it's a PC with other uses than gaming. If you already have one you know you're in for, so there you go.

I bought the PSX purely to be able to play Final Fantasy VII... and, since the system was still young, I knew more games would be released to ensure the purchase was sound. (As it is, I got almost 200+ hours of playtime from that one game... Materia, KotRT, chocobo breeding/racing, and Weapons battles ensured a strong time investment.) But the games only got better from then on... The RE series, MGS, and a few oddballs like Oddworld and Driver kept the play value high.

The PS2 and PS3 were both "justified" by their dual-use as movie players... Of course, the PS3 was on viable after the release of the new Slim, and packaged with the new TV, so as to be practically free. (I love in-store Cyber Monday competition sales...)

Now I'm getting the itch to procure a 360, for the current and future exclusive releases... but have no disposable income to be able to (even if an Elite 360 would be cheaper than replacing my PC to be up to current spec requirements...). Oh, well. No 'Fable Series', 'Mass Effect 2', 'Splinter Cell: Conviction', or 'Portal2' for a good while yet.

I had bought an N64 for Goldeneye, and only for Goldeneye.

Later on I bought an Xbox just to play Halo (back when I thought it was truly amazing).

Right now I'd say that I wouldn't make choices like that again, but then I realize that had I not done it in the past, there's a lot more games I would never have seen, that are awesome, if I didn't decide to buy a console simply for one game.

Fable 2 not as good as Fable 1. Can say that with certainly. Now I wait until the next variation on the 360(slim) comes out before picking it up if you are going to go for the purchase of the system. I bought a DS when I could afford it simply because of one game when the DSXL was announced, and the DS went down in price.

The reason is that you shouldn't buy a system for one game is it generally isn't worth it because you can purchase more. Hell with just an emulator and a 360 controler with a usb cord allows you to play a pay for 360 game on the PC. Which would cost less then purchasing a new system just for the game.
