I'm a Brit, and I'd quite like to play a game where the UK (or the British govt.) are the antagonists. But I'd like to play against the Americans even more. All through playing games like MW2 or Alpha Protocol I'm always expecting the big reveal, where it turns out *the president was in on it all along!* or something, but no, it's always a "rogue faction" or a PMC or something. And speaking of PMC's, how come in HAWX you never get the option of sticking with Artemis?
I don't trust or admire my own government (even if one I voted for gets in, my thinking is still at best "well they *might* not be evil"), much less that of the USA. I don't know why all games seem to be made with the idea that gamers would never tolerate their own leaders as villains. Everyone hates politicians, why insist on lionising them?
The game I'd *REALLY* like to play is one where you are an Iraqi insurgent (or from some fictional country which is an expy for Iraq.) Maybe your character starts out just an ordinary guy, maybe he's even pro-American, but then his family gets blown up by a coalition bomb. Then he gets arrested and tortured for being an enemy combatant, but is rescued by actual insurgents, and then he finally does become one. I'm not saying the game should portray the Iraqi insurgents as the good guys either, but it'd be nice to at least make them sympathetic.
And from a gameplay point of view, wouldn't it be cool to play as the underdogs? You can't call in an airstrike, you haven't got any armour, you're vastly out-gunned and have to resort to guerilla tactics. That'd be a lot more fun (or at least a nice change) from playing a nigh-invincible soldier gunning down vast armies of mooks.
EDIT: To clarify, I didn't mean to come off as anti-american. It's just as a non-american, I'm tired of playing American heroes in all my games.
