Ever been to Srebrenica?
no what is that?
It was a UN "Safe Zone" where 5,000 Bosniaks were killed during the break up of Yugoslavia, somewhat redefining what we thought "safe" to mean. A battalion of Dutch troops were deployed there at the time and didn't stop the Bosnian-Serb forces. Quite how they were expected to stop Bosnian-Serb forces in the range of division strength with armour and artillery support when the Dutch were denied air and artillery support and were only equipped with light weapons (don't forget, this was a UN mission so they can't appear too "agressive") I don't know. But anyway, the Dutch didn't offer a great deal of resistance, a couple of them were killed by the Bosniaks, who started throwing grenades at them and the battalion commander was photographed having a drink with the Bosnian-Serb commander. Bit of a PR disaster for the Dutch really.

Anyway, yes, I would play a game where the British/English are the bad guys. We get it in Film often enough and it does turn up now and again in games and I don't have a problem with it. To be honest, at this stage its a running joke more than anything else.

Considering Ireland's neutral it looks like we won't be going to war any time soon.

Besides, if we were playing a historicaly accurate game about our War of Independence, it would be impossible for us to be the bad guys, everyone knows the British were. Ooh, controversy.
Besides, if I did play a game like that the Mrs would lynch me for being a "traitor" :p

Note: I have nothing against British people, just their 700 years of oppression.

Sweden as the bad guys? For what? Not going to war? xD

Actually I don't really care about stuff like that, so yes, I think I could. Although I'd like to see the war game calling us the bad guys. (not counting kicking our asses in a total war game... I did that a lot as Prussia in Empire xD)

America could never be the bad guys because no developer would have the balls to make them the bad guys - imagine the sales they'd lose.

OT: I'd play as someone fighting against the British.

If you're so "patriotic" that you can't even play a game in which you fight your own country then you're a pathetic moron.
For the love of God.... Its a joke. If you look at that and think "he must be completely serious", than you need to get out more.

Basically, I was making a mockery of the worlds view on Americans. The only way I could have made it more obvious was if I was playing this.

I believe us British seem to be the badguys (or provide the voice talent for) most videogames, so i'm used to it. But in a FPS context I could care less if I was fighting fellow brits, I'm just still waiting for a game where the US are the villains. Fighting Russians, Arabs and Germans is overwhelmingly dull.

Look at post 307 before you try to call me an idiot.

As for using the wrong version of moot... well, I can spell, just get my words mixed up.

Australia as the bad nation? The hell are we going to do, yell racist jokes at you?

Jokes aside, I suppose I would play a game if Australians were the bad guys. It'd have to be a bloody good game though.

I was reading about MW2's plot recently and realised that it is so anti-Russia that it isn't funny. Do any Russians find it somewhat hard to shoot your own men in the face?
Would any of you not play a game where you opposed your own country?
As Russia may be a stereotypical enemy for America. As far as I've played Battlefield Bad Company 2, there's USA vs Russia..

OT: I would find it quite amusing to play a game were my own country are the enemy :)

I think any developer would have a hard time making Canadians antagonists.....
I'm quite sure some Neocon developer could paint Canada as some evil socialist, fascist, communistic (yes I know those are not even similar, just common rhetoric by the Neocons) government intent on spreading it's anti-capitalistic evilness to the US. We will add Venezuela to the mix even though I'm sure American interests in Colombia would staunch any kind of offensive from there.

The worst part, as I've completely came up with the backstory in under a minute and I could see some neocon thinking its a great idea.

I was working off what you'd said - not replying directly. My comment about patriotism wasn't directed at you either.

I'm only 1/4 Russian, and that's through my grandmother who's still Armenian by blood.

But I'd honestly say I'm getting pretty sick and tired of shooting Russians. I mean the last I checked the Soviet Union was dismantled in the early 90s and the Cold War is over....WTF?
