Would you go back in time to fight in WWII, if you knew you couldn't die?

I wouldn't. I wouldn't want to desensitize myself that much and there's no way I could return to normal life after that.

Like Aby said, it'd be a great shock to one's psyche. . but I must admit I do feel powerful emotion and attachment towards the Wehrmacht, for giving their lives, and fighting - the fact that they were given no acknowledgment or recognition for their bravery and courage during that period.

Not being able to die whilst you watch your friends be killed may not be the blessing it sounds like.

I would say yes. All the hardships would put a new perspective on my life back in the present.

If you couldn't be killed I'd do it for the opportunity to do things that no-one else would ever do.

E.g. What exactly does it feel like to catch an artillery round on your forehead? Everyone who has experienced that will have died a fraction of a second later.

Hey there soldier, you've just enlisted in the Third Army
I have? Done. I would gladly serve under General George S. Patton Jr. Since I will be immortal, I will witness it all. It would be the proudest moment of my life...probably.

Actually I think someone has done this ("go back in time to fight in WW2"-thing), and I got evidence: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Churchill

I mean, he fought with SWORD and BOW & ARROW in WW2, played bagpipes and got captured by Germans, survived, then later on became a surfer o_O

Anyways, yes, I'd go back in time to fight in WW2, AS LONG AS I also won't be captured by the Nazis. One thing is fighting in WW2, but being captured and sent to one of the camps or something like that? No thanks.

And hey, fighting on the front lines in WW2 would actually give my life some deeper meaning, as I can't say I've accomplished much otherwise
Wow. Thanks for that link. He seemed to love war!
He would be a great subject for a movie.

Oh yes I would! And I'd do anything it takes so that my country doesn't end up beeing "sold" to the Russians by the so-called "Allies" at the end of the war, just like the rest of Eastern Europe. America got half of Germany and the rest (Brits & Co) washed their hands just like Pontius Pilate supposedly did in that sci-fi book. I guess it sounded like this: "Who gives a damn about those poor sods, anyway? We didn't even know they existed." I'm sure the West bloody well knew what the consequences of Russian occupation would be. Enough ranting, back to the past!

No, I don't relish the thought of killing people, most German soldiers were just guys fighting for their country without holding the same views as the Nazi party. It was either fight, stay in the god-awful militant state, or be sent to a camp for desertion.

Can't die? Can't be forever maimed?

If that's the case I'm going down in the history books as the hero who single handedly took control of Berlin, shot Hitler and won the war. It would be over before 1940.

No. Chances are I would change history, and not necessarily for the better - even if I did fight on the side of the allies (despite my grandfather/grandmother being German etc).

Just exactly how much pain would you recieve when you got shot in the head? Because in most cases you'd be dead fairly instantly. If I couldn't die then I'd feel obligated to stop the germans, I'd have to run out first but I'd need a squad close behind me.. if I ran out of ammo then they could just capture me and chain me up.. need the squad to make sure that doesn't happen.

Fight in any of the wars that happened after that? No way.

Absolutely, and I'm surprised at the number of people responding in the negative.

You can't die! You'll be brought right back to the present afterward!

Think of what an experience it would be... to relive history? To know, firsthand, what it's like to be in that kind of situation?

I'm sure it's horrible. I'm also sure being invincible removes a lot of the horror. Not all, not by a long damn shot, but enough for me to take that opportunity in an instant.

Hell yes! I'd go back in time and join the 101st...
Except I'm a girl, so I'd be stuck in the WAC, WAVES, or Women's Marine Corps Reserves.

Maybe the wizard what's it could change my gender while I'm in the past...
My Aunt was a WASP and loved it. She also did stunt flying with my Uncle and was part of an all Women Air Race team. She flew fighters and transport airplanes in WWII. heres a link.

Yes. I would suffer through all the pain, to make my way to where Hitler and his mob are. I would then capture them and make them face trial. My main objective would be to save any and all lives. So that means I would not kill one person if it can be helped.

No!

The idea is horrible. It's treating the whole thing like a game, because that is all it is to you, there are no costs to you in being there at all. I acknowledge it could be fun on a pure experience basis, it'd be the ultimate realistic WWII shooter after all, but that completely ignores morals or thought about what you are doing.

You know how the war ends, or would end without you. You know that you are influencing events by being there, so changing things. By being there you are killing axis and allied men simply by being there, by influencing events. Some of these men may not have died in original History, so you personally are responsible for their deaths and the deaths of their ancestors who you know must exist or, thanks to you, previously existed.

Finally my most obvious objection, killing people for fun doesn't strike me as being fantastically entertaining.
