Would you go back in time to fight in WWII, if you knew you couldn't die?

I most definitely would.
It would be scary as hell, but a experience I don't think I could turn down.
Atleast, not with the "Not going to be called Limpy" thing.

I just might take him up on it. The scenario says I'd have to fight on the front, but not what kind of fighting or what kind of role I'd be. I'd choose to be a medic if I was involved in the conflict, it still puts me on the front lines and the not dying part would make me an invaluable asset to the other soldiers. Plus being from the future I'd have better knowledge of medical procedures, practices and despite the limited resources available during WWII, I'd still be doing a good thing.

Hell's to the yes. If I couldn't die - added bonus. I'd go in all guns blazing. Taking stronghold after nazi stronghold all on my lonesome. Ending the war with me capturing Hitler, tunnelling to hell and handing him over to satan myself.

Yes, I would go back and save my grandfathers friends.... That way he would not experience the trauma from seeing them burn to death in front of his eyes... Thanks to that he lost his will to live and I never met him...
I really would have loved helping him..
If that wouldn't have been possible, I would have went to the russian front..
I just love history. ;(

How does this immortality deal work? Is it regeneration or godmode or a guarantee that fate will keep me out of the way of each individual bullet somehow? If it's the last one, it'd be harder to do something ridiculous and I'd just seem lucky. If it's godmode, I'd be personally clearing Juno Beach because, hey, godmode.

Either way, keeping most of the French forces evacuated from Dunkirk in the UK rather than sending them back to join the surrender would help and then come invasion time I'd be in a position to go and explain to the Germans' officer just how much better they could serve their country on the Eastern front than here on the Western, and get the Iron Curtain a little bit further east. Apart from the benefits to the people between the two lines, that'd make the Soviets a little less imminent on the Atlantic for the Cold War and make reunification easier on Germany because it would be a bigger West Germany absorbing a smaller East Germany.

Then the trick would be to find some way to disappear "as soon as the war ends" without anyone noticing.

Then I suppose I'd be a history teacher.

Hell yes, I'd see it as my duty. If I couldn't die I reckon I'd be pretty useful...*Decides to read OP before posting*. Oh, ok so it has no effect on anything, it would just be for teh lulz. In that case no.

Not being able to die whilst you watch your friends be killed may not be the blessing it sounds like.
Exactly. Even though you can't be killed, what if you could still feel all the psychological effects of combat? Seeing your friends die before your eyes, hearing a kid who hasn't even gone to college screaming for someone to help him as he lies in a foxhole with his leg blown off. If we were to go back in time to participate, we'd be seeing things that would stay with us for the rest of our lives.

I'm thinking trauma here, as a pilot, yes, ground-soldier, no. Too much blood and too many bits, I couldn't handle that.

Successful thread is successful. A pretty interesting question if I may say so myself. I thought about it while playing Modern Warfare 2. There's lots of loop holes in it, but just try to think of the question in the way that you want to see fit, or will give the best answer.

After thinking about it a lot last night, I finally succumbed to that I would not forgive myself if I were to passed this up.

Discounting psychological damage, and since none of my friends go back with me, yes, I would. It would be an amazing and eye-opening experience, and I would be hailed as a war hero. I blame years of FPSs glorifying war. Yes it would be horrible, but if I was immortal I wouldn't nearly feel as much sting after a while. Knowing nothing could kill me and all. I mean, if you know a bullet to the head will kill you, you'd be terrified. If you knew it wouldn't do anything, not nearly as much I bet.
Oh, and of course I'd fight for Britain. I'd love to get blasted by a morter, then stand back up and just smirk at the enemy who tried to blow me up.

I would definitely do it. It would be an otherwise impossible life experience, and would allow me to help end the war earlier than it did, thus ending the Holocaust faster. A tactical advantage like an invulnerable soldier would be extreme. I would charge German lines firing. I would kill hundreds of them, and they would kill none of me.

I would fight on the east European front for the Soviet Union.

edit-

Checked back at the OP, and realized I can't change history. I would still do it, as I would always regret not doing it. I would probably not let myself get shot to hell doing it then though. Might still occasionally just to be a bad ass.

Hell yeah I would go back not because I have that lust for killing myself some Nazis I've done the hell out of that. I would go back to ww2 so I could meet my grandfather and join him in the invasion of Italy.

In case you were wondering he did survive ww2 also he was a medic not a soldier, so he had to march up the river without a gun and hope he doesn't get hit while trying to save people. He however died before I was born.
