I've been in a riot, it's not as cool as it sounds.

I'd probably get the hell out of there, me and my friends once tried to just ignore it, we ran through the police but they ended up beating the shit out of us because they thought we were rioters, wasn't cool.

I would participate in the riot, only if it had any political meaning (against the government, or against the police, or smashing fascists). if not, i would just stare...

I'd help the police, is there was anything I could do without putting myself in danger, which is unlikely. I don't see the point of rioting; it doesn't achieve anything.

I have been in the middle of two seperate riots both in protest marches in London. It's a vey frightning experiance no matter what end of it you are involved in. I would say you never know how you will react until you see one for yourself.

Otherwise, I'd get a police officer.

Depends on the situation. Is the riot for a cause I believe in? Is this a riot to abolish something I value? or is this a riot just for the sake of a riot?

Hmmm, i'd only ever join a riot if I really believed in the ideals, not what some people do and join to fight shit/hurt people.

Is there a side in a riot that beats up both the hippies AND the police? Like say some martial arts master who just dives into the fray whooping ass and taking names.

Most riots I see today are a bunch of passive-aggressive hippies baiting the coppers to give em a slap then go crying to The Guardian when they get a bloody nose.

having said i would riot, i would probably be one of the last people to leg it, cause i want to keep all the stuff i just jacked and then some.

I can imagine a guy running down the street with a HDTV under their arm, the cables dragging along behind them:

"I swear to god, I just bought this today and this riot broke out. It's not what it looks like!"

Otherwise i wouldn't, im secure enough in my own ability not to feel the need to destroy things for the pure sake of it or to see how much havoc i could cause.Big scuffles can be fun sure, but actively going out to ruin the area where i live? no thanks.

Points for out of the box thinking, missed points for unoriginality, even the coppers are using paint-ball guns.

I'd load up a super-soaker with piss and yell TF2 sniper puns at them:
Me "boom, headshot"
Them "AUUUUGHH My EYES! I'll never riot again!"

Depends on the cause- something that is actually important to the advancement of society then yes.

Generally? I'd stay out of the way, maybe a little post-chaos looting but I'm not generally looking for trouble.
