I don't think the police just lets random strangers help them out, not that I know anything about, of course, but it seems unlikely. I would not join a random riot, but if the government was trying to impose some sort of extremely freedom inhibiting laws, then I'd probably join a riot, if one was to occur. Maybe I'd even start one myself. But I'd never join a random riot, though I'd probably blame football for it.
The only way I'd be involved in a riot is as the police (I plan to join the RCMP when I'm older) but what kind of geek would I be if I passed up the opportunity to scream "YOU SHALL NOT PASS" in the middle of a riot as a cop?!
If it was started by vandals or cockheads, I'd try and get home as quick as possible. The rioters are stealing and smashing things and the police have the firepower needed to stop them-they don't need my help.
If it was started because of a protest against Stephen Conroy's dipshitiness and determination to wipeout the very concept of freedom of expression or against the lack of R18 games...count me in. A fine and maybe some jail time is worth getting the message across.

I would probably watch from a safe distance, but if things went to hell in a handbasket, I would skedaddle.
I would get my gun and kill any looters that try to enter my apartment or otherwise damage my building, though I would give loud verbal warnings first if they didn't appear armed with guns. I would only join a riot if it was something very serious, like destruction of constitutional rights at the state or federal level (in which case I would also bring my gun; if I care about something enough to riot I care about it enough to kill.)

Probably not. I don't like that whole violence scene, and even if there was a good cause I wouldn't have the guts to stand up to the police.
I would do my best to organize my neighborhood to keep us safe from the rioters.

I don't like rioters, no matter the cause destroying private property and risking innocent lives is probably the worst thing you can do.

It very much depends on what the riot was aimed at. But I love the idea of it. Especially tossing bricks into the houses of bankers and whatnot.
