I don't play MP much so whether or not I'd be a good soldier depends on:
A)Can i get into shape,
B)Can i use a bad-ass gun and
C)Whether or not I'm fighting for a cause i Believe in, and am willing and aching to fight for. If I'm conscripted into some army, at war for some abstract reason i don't give a damn about... I'm not moving a foot out of cover.

I like to think I would make an acceptable soldier. You can never tell until you are in that situation though.

The reasons why NO gamer would last in the military (Without actual training) is because games are just...not realistic enough. In truth, 90% or more of the guns used by most armies don't even have Full Auto settings. A standard AK47 with a 30 bullet magazine will fire all 30 rounds in 5 seconds flat if set to full auto. Plus, soldiers don't carry more then maybe 1-2 spare magazines of ammo. I'll give in and say that Yeah, MAYBE some people could headshot with a sniper rifle in real life. But at the same time, CAN you kill a person without any moral conflict, and CAN you do so while being possibly shot at by another person whose using a scoped rifle and probably has more experience? Even after spending years in a 100% military simulation, there is also the chance that you could be hit in the head by a stray bullet only 4 seconds into a gunfight.

All in all...NO way in crap would I make a good soldier. I don't think anyone would XD (Except actual soldiers heheh)

Was an army nut as a late teen (total opposite now that I'm informed), played pro paintball for a while (1st in our only tourney), played my share of shooters and have common sense. So yes, I think I would make a good soldier. But I sure never intend on becoming one and neither should anyone else.

Would you be willing to PM me your DM stories? Or make a story thread if it's too large to tell in a PM? I want to know what happened in this campaign!
Most of my stories would be titled "How an interesting new angle on tradition fantasy was killed by a mob of retarded players" because any time I had a new approach they went in, played it the usual way and then got the shits up and quit when that didn't work for them. Then one of them would run a Forgotten Realms campaign for a while where everyone except me would play a dual wielding Drow ranger... and I'd try to resist the temptation to stab them all to death with sharpened d4s.
A group of questionably-aligned Drizzt Do'Urdens. The only solution to that is "Rocks fall from the sky. Everyone dies."

If you were running an online or play-by-email campaign, I would gladly participate. I'm more into the roleplaying than the game mechanics, although I've always tried to equip my character with a Ring of Sustenance. You don't have to spend gold on food or drink, and you only need 2 hours of sleep. It can also be disguised as a wedding ring if worn on your left hand ring finger. Lots of roleplaying potential with just that one ring.

I'm sorry? Holy shit I would not want to be a soldier with only 1/2 spare mags. We all carry a minimum of 5, but most of us carry 10, because realistically you're going to need it. Also, if you're shooting for the head, you're doing it wrong.

Well I'm pretty good at doing what I'm told.........but I am rather opinionated.
Depends on the war I'd say.

I'd either die during the first two seconds of the fight or I'd conquer the world.
While playing multiplayer luck is the biggest factor for me. I'm rather good at shooting games, but I have no patience so I tend to rush around, don't care for cover and spray paint everything that moves with my guns.

That's another reason they had a rough time with me DMing - any carbon copies of book characters got rejected.

Can't help you there, hung up my dice bag a few years back.

How about a purely roleplaying campaign? Basically, an RP thread. No game mechanics to worry about; DM says yay or nay arbitrarily. If you ever feel the need...

I'd make an exceedingly poor soldier, individualism, cosmopolitanism, and a tendency to engage in strategical and ethical speculations over the overall goals of combat operations don't really go too well with the army. Nor would my physique or personality agree to the hardships.

My approach to military FPS's wouldn't see me survive long in genuine combat either. Not that I believe many of them would really be representative of what's important in an actual combat scenario.

I might get by as an Auditor though.

If I get the itch to GM again, I'll probably start off with something light, such as Pokethulhu or Risus (big ups to S. John Ross).

If I disobey an order I'm probably going to die anyways.

Whether it be the enemy killing me or my commander.

Dear god, the hell I would carry 10 extra clips of ammo. When I was doing my mandatory military service we were trained with 3 clips only, guess they estimated that's all we needed. Though we were also taught never to shoot automatic fire, 'cus it was a waste o something. Always one shot at a time.

OT: Well I dont like playing FPS-games much actually, "realistic" FPS games to be exact. But what I do play, I play more of a fire support role. Front line assaulting isn't my thing. I try to be careful when advancing.

Being a soldier is mostly just a dull, mind numbing grind. Most soldiers don't become rangers or special forces.
Almost everyone can be drilled into the ranks.
