I would gladly play a homosexual main character.Just as long as the game it self is good.

Well, I would care, because the developer would make clear to the gamer that the main character is gay. which in itself i think is pretty homophobic since it would still be considered a special thing.
And I think we allow homophobia and racism, discrimination and that sort of thing as long as we consider somebody different than the rest. just like the first black president of America, people are making a huge deal about progression cause they have a black president, and in the future a gay president, a female president.
its still racism even if you approve of it, because you think of those people as different, while they really aren't

I agree with the bulk of your argument but I'd be worried about going too far the opposite way. Being different shouldn't be made into a big massive deal but at the same time ignoring the differences breeds resentment. For example, I am English. Does that make me the same as an American, when I have had different culture, experiences etc. No. However it doesn't make me anything special either, I'm still a human. It's just part of who I am. See what I mean?

I know this isn't what you're implying but it's not a big leap from your conclusion.

Would I play Willem Dafoe's character in a Boondock Saints game? Yes, yes I would....
As long as it's fun.
This man has the damned right idea! But hey, if a storyline demanded that my character be gay, then I would be cool with this...it should be noted that I am a yaoi-fangirl, so I really have no problem with guy-on-guy, but I could suffer through girl-on-girl if I had to...as long as the storyline was worth it.

Yes, I don't care about the characters orientation, race or gender. So long as the story makes sense, I'd play a game as a serial killer that's also a nazi sympathizer as long as it all made sense and the game was actually fun..and they didn't make a big deal out of "Oh look we have a gay main character if you dun buy us yer a racist." Because that's still racist, as your making a big deal out of the fact he's Gay or a Nazi sympathizer even if your for it, it's still racist because your treating them differently.

Ok, since there is alot of 'No' answers within this thread, plus a lot of 'if they are lesbians, hell yess!!!!111!!1... I would say its not the right time to release a gay orientated video game on the world.

It would be morally wrong of anyone to not play it because 'gay is a sin'. If its just coz the content doesnt interest you then that is acceptable.

Shame, I would find it interesting. Oh wells.

Probably not.

I find I have a problem playing flamboyant and irritating characters and having a gay lead guy would probably irritate the piss out of me.

That and I just don't see what the point of having a gay/lesbian character would be. It's an option in a few games but it's not something I would go out of my way to accomplish in say.. Fable.

So no... just no.

Totally depends.

Is it a guy slashing his way through hordes of zombies and French kisses his boyfriend in the end cinematic. Yeah, sure. (I just press skip)

Is it a romantic drama adventure game set around relationship problems? Hell NO! I wouldn't play that even if the main character was a beautiful, heterosexual woman!

As a pansexual transgirl, anything other than an answer of 'yes' would be most hypocritical. And incorrect.

As incorrect as, say, this statement:

Which assumes that all gay guys are prissy, feminine fops. That's a bit like saying all straight guys are beer-swilling, stocky louts who fight in the streets of a Saturday night. Patently false, no?

It doesn't really matter, as long as the story isn't condescending. Personally, I don't want the gay character to receive a pat on the head and an 'It's OK, sweetie, you can be whatever you want to be' in the sickly tones of a Disney film.

I play games to shoot/stab/burn things, not make out with them. Really, sexual orientation, unless it is vital to the plot is inconsequential

I'd have no problem with that. Except if the main character is a complete "Bernie Crane", that might get on my nerves. Otherwise, sure. You don't know if your favorite game's protagonist is gay. Except if it's made clear he/she's not.

after reading the artical "not that theres anything wrong with that" I was wondering would people now adays be ready to play a game with a gay main charater? or lesbain main charater as so not to discrimnate(mispelled).

After Note: To be clear the charater is gay to being with, not rpg style where you choose the sexuall ortation(misspeled)
Depends on the level of flirting, kissing, and/or sex that would be involved. For lesbians, more is better; for gays, less is better...

Aside from that, sure, why not - I actually though the Gay Tony DLC had you playing a gay guy before I bought it, though it turned out to be his bodyguard guy.

Anywho, long story short, yes I'm male and straight.

Yeah, sure why not? i think i'd particularly enjoy it if it was a extremely flamboyantly gay character, and possibly roaming around a gay dungeon (one who gets the reference wins ... um and virtual high five)
If the game has a good story and gameplay i don't care if the character is a man, women , gay, or straight

if the character was a well rounded and tree dimensional character, i would.
but if it was just an over-stereotypical mess i would avoid it like the plague.

"did anyone ever stop to think that homosexuality could be a natural response to a given species' overpopulation?"

That comment blew my mind.
Actually mass starvation of a spiecies is a standard response to overpopulation, not turning gay. It's more like defect, some sort of mild mental sickness. In nature noone is born perfect so I believe homosexuals just 'pop" here and there once in a while, just like people with cancer or aspergers.
Yeah, I know you're entitled to your opinion and whatever, but fuck you. "Some sort of mild mental sickness." Good thing ignorant opinion isn't supported by facts.

"Gay sex doesn't create babies so there must be some defect." Since when has sex solely been about reproduction? Humans are one of the only species that have sex for pleasure, and not just reproduction. So that argument goes out the window.

I'm confused as to why you even posted, especially since you knew that it would likely make someone mad and start some kind of flame war.

Edit:
OT: Maybe we should try fixing how people look at homosexuals before trying to put them into more games. I read through most of the posts, and many people say something along the lines of "As long as he's not one of those stereotypical gays." That's fine, I don't like those guys either, but I think it's a problem that that's the first thing people think of when homosexuality is mentioned. Also, as someone else mentioned, they already struggle with portraying Blacks and women without overwhelming stereotype.

Also if you're one of the people that said they would feel too uncomfortable with playing a game with a homosexual character, that's pretty pathetic to be honest.

I like playing as unlikely heroes. It adds a certain comedic touch especially to online play. For example what is more embarrassing: getting knifed in the back by a burly space marine, or getting knifed in the back by a space marine with a pink scarf and a lisp. It would also be a welcome change to the one liners that are spouted in single player. Less macho grunting and more nancing about.
