Would you still eat meat if you had to kill it yourself?

I'm sure I would find it difficult, at first. But I think I could stomach it, and it would be satisfying to hunt, knowing that what I catch will be put to a use, not just mounted on a wall or stuffed.

.. Unless it's chicken. Oh God, that was terrible.

As per the thread title...

Im a meat eater, but this ones for the veggies out there.

How many of you would still eat meat if the only way to eat it was for it to be slain and prepared by your hand?

I think I would rather hunt and eat a wild animal than have one bred by me / for me. I believe this fits in accordance to nature's design for life.

(with the exception of vultures and other scavenger type animals)

Your thoughts?
I may have misintepreted your post but the part I bolded seems to be in contradiction to your title?

Surely the answer would be none? If they are vegetarian then they wouldn't eat meat regardless of whether they killed it or not.
Oops, I meant that this arguement was meant to support vegetarians. Obviously they wouldn't eat meat themselves.

What, there are people who don't go and catch deer, fish, chickens, and other animals, kill them by hand, and then devour the flesh raw?

On a slightly more appropriate note, YES
I would gladly kill pluck, clean, and cook my own chickens, that way i know its real chicken

Damn right I would! I love to hunt and fish and trap. In fact, I have a couple rifles and shotguns, as well as camping gear. When this world's economy finally gives way beyond the point of recovery, I'll be in the woods smoking my dead deer to preserve its meat, curing and treating its skin and fur for clothing, and setting up snares to catch rabbits while members of my clan are fishing and going off to hunt the next buck or harvesting our gardens.

Ted Nugent is the biggest supporter of eating meat you killed yourself. He even has a book called "Kill'em and Grill'em." He says that's why he's so fit. Venison is a rather lean meat compared to beef or pork.

I guess so, but it would take a little getting used to. If I lived on a ranch sure. Raise some cows in a big pasture with hills and a little stream, and a barn for shelter, when one gets old, bring it down to the barn shoot it through the head so to kill it instantly, then get down to the nasty business. Nothing beats fresh unaltered beef, except maybe elk. Elk burgers are fucking delicous! Of course I would have my own greenhouse as well. Get some vertical windmills and maybe some solar panels for electricity, be completely self sufficient.

i dont have a problem with the actual act of killing it as much as just me being lazy and impatient... seems like a lot of work that i'm not used to doing and i dont respond well to change

Yes, I would, and I do. Fish, Cattle, the odd croc when I was up north, pigs when family friends owned a piggery, the occasional roo (yay for eating my national emblem). So both wild and bred/raised.

Nothing beats a home killed steak, especially if you get a nice beast to begin with - by comparison the crap you buy in stores is... well I just said it :)

Yeah of course I would. I've never done the killing of my meat, but I've cooked whole pigs slowly over an open fire before eating them so the idea of actually killing the pig first is not really that confronting.

Had to and did.

Tastes all the sweeter for the effort.

The best part about it is the horrified looks on the vegonazis' faces as they have to scramble to find a better argument.

I once worked in an abbatoir, downsides included crappy pay, lots of hard work, and bloody awful hours.
On the upside I got some wicked steak really cheap.
So yes, I could quite cheerfully eat meat I've killed and prepared myself.

Only if I can kill them with my bare hands. I can already smell the freshly slain pheasants, rabbits, and Dragons.

Wow I wasn't expecting such responses. I asked this question a year ago on Yahoo Answer's and the majority vote was no...

But thats probably because everyone is approximately 12 on that website.

I think that you shouldn't eat meat unless you'd be willing to kill, skin etc it yourself. There are too many people who find eating meat acceptable but feel squeamish and say 'I don't want to think about it' when you bring up the topic of the origin of the food.
