yes I would still play a game if the main character was gay. As long as they don't make his/her being gay outrageous, for instance making them gay just to have a gay char . . . if the character is gay because it makes sense to the story or is important to the personality of the character making sense . . . in other words the same reasons why I don't mind playing as a girl main or man main or other things. As long as it makes SENSE, I don't care who they want to sleep with.

I would like it if at first it isn't revealed it is gay but rather over the course of the game it became more apparent.

I wouldn't mind a male gay protagonist. If it was female it would have to be done tastefully or I'd probably get the feeling the devlopers had done it to be all like LESBIANS ARE HOT LOLZ. or something. But no it wouldn't stop me playing a game.

I would rather define my character my own way a la RPG. But as long as being gay is not a defining feature of their character because then it gets annoying, because honestly, who do you know that being gay is their defining quality. At that point it would be having a gay character just to rub faces in it and say "HEY HEY HEY! LOOK AT US A GAY CHARACTER, WE ARE EDGY AND PUSHING LIMITS!"

I don't care about fictional characters sexuality, so yes I would play a game with a gay main character. that said I would be annoyed if the game browbeats his/her sexuality to the player as often as possible, because then it becomes nothing more then a gimmick. I really don't like that with Strait characters either (Duke Nukem being an exception because of cheesiness)

It Could be done in a subtle but emotionally riveting way. picture in Modern Warfare 2, going through the streets of Virgina, in the neighborhood your current players sergeant lives in normally and your sergeant violates orders to go save his boyfriend. an off the cuff, "holy crap I don't have time to protect myself from DADT." moment like that would be very much genuine. particularly if a snot faced homophobic private goes "this is so a DADT Violation." and the sergeant replies "they can boot me after the war."

State the game, the character and a yes or no.
The character could be lesbain also but don't say yes because you think it would be hot if the main character lesbain.

For me yes infact it would maybe make it more reason to play the game because then atleast the character would be interesting instead of generic spacemarine.
So you are saying that if a character is gay then it suddenly becomes interesting. Why? Explain this to me. Why being gay makes a character more interesting?

If the protagonist of a game was gay I wouldn't stop playing because I honestly wouldn't care. I mean, in my first playthrough of Dragon Age I hooked up with EVERYONE possible, even with that elvish guido, and I didn't stop playing, although I admit I did skip the sex scenes because, you know, I don't like seeing 2 men kissing and rubbing each other.

I mean, as long as the game isn't just trying to give a big "Fuck you" to the industry by yelling all over the place your character is gay, I would be ok with controlling said character. If there's something that is annoying as hell is homosexuals that NEED to tell everyone they are homosexuals. I just can't stand them. Make the protagonist of your adventure one of these persons and the game ruined for me.

And I don't say it's ruined because the protagonist is gay, it's ruined because I can't sympathize with the character I am controlling and thus the game stops being engaging. Imagine if in Oblivion, instead of playing as the voiceless hero, you played as that annoying fan that would follow you around. Nobody wants to play as someone they don't like.

You know, this is actually a really good point
+ many points to the author.

Now I, am vehemently pro gay-rights/marriage/everything. I'd like to think that a gay character wouldn't affect my decision to purchase a game, however in the case of a dating sim .ect it would, as for a game with a liner storyline including the main characters gay romance (boy or girl) I'm not as sure really, if it was optional it would definitely not impact my purchase. My line of argument is that I play games to be immersed and play as myself or a relatable character, I think a gay character would throw me out too much if it was a forced inclusion, however fi it founds it's way into a less serious game (read: Duke Nukem, mindless shooters .ect) it probably would have nearly as much an impact.

However what I will say is it will definitely throw out a lot of interest from more homophobic groups, a lot of controversy (unfortunately) and a general loss of sales thus making it unlikely, I prefer the Bioware/Maxis approach where its up to you, as this both incorporates the gay demographic, keeps immersion and wont send the homophobes flying at it with fury.

Wouldn't care too much if the game was good.
Though sexuality in games is always retarded, unnecessary and bad.

Except for a dating sim, sure. In Bioware RPG's I usually play through as gay and straight of both genders both to get some variation in the romances and because I tend to create the personality of characters I play before I start the game. I'm a sucker for character creation :p

Yeah it wouldn't bother me. As long as his or her sexuality wasn't shoved down my throat the entire game.

I'm honestly curious. When did GAY turn into "hump the shit out of every man you see"? There's a lot of normal homosexuals that arent like that in life. I mean, one of the characters in Persona 4 (possibly one of the greatest JRPGs made, and apart of possibly one of the greatest JRPG series's) had to come to terms with his maybe homosexuality, while another was struggling with Gender roles, and both were equally awesome and you could argue a protagonist, since you took control of them in parts of battle.

So to answer the question, yes, I would. Homosexual people can be normal, and honestly probably are MORE normal then straight people (the world of fetishes is not a journey to tread lightly). Actually, if I have the chance, I take the opportunity on at least one save file to make the character homosexual.

If it were an RPG, no, I could not relate to the character. Otherwise I have no reason to care.
