Nope. Because I already have 3. But they are cool, fun to swing around, and were worth buying in my opinion.

I actually think a katana would look really awesome on some kind of mantle or table and would keep me high and dry in the heat of a zombie apocalypse.

I actually have a Katana.

A pro grade one too. Not some cheap shit from a tourist shop in New York.

I wouldn't mind owning a katana or two. Why? I'll say this much: I've watched the Kill Bill movies...
Wouldn't have any real use for it, but it would be cool to have hanging on my wall nontheless.

I have a katana in my room, I DO know how to use it, and it IS in plain view. However, if you plan to get a NICE katana, then expect to shell out a couple thousand dollars, they don't come cheap.

I think I'd rather invest in a nice firearm because a sword wouldn't serve much more other than decoration. I rather have a couple fun times at a gun range instead of a five hundred dollar centerpiece for my fireplace mantle.

No. I would rather a chainsword from warhammer 40k.... Or failing that, a quarterstaff.
Oh no no no, chainswords are horrible!

I may be slightly biased, having made one, having the chain cut through the blade, getting snapped and then kinda making a hole in the garage window.

But it worked...kinda!

OT: I'd love to own a katana, but only for decorative purposes. And zombies.

I already own a katana. Two, actually. One is a replica of a masamune blade that I just like to look at and every once in a while take out and the other is an authentic blade I bought. Both I bought because I've studied Shotokan, Kendo and Iaido. Although guns are easier when personal protection is on the line. :p

I should clarify: The 'authentic' blade is not a true authentic japanese blade as very few can afford that. But it is a very high quality blade that was made in the same exact manner as an authentic blade would be. It was made in the US, however.

The novelty wears off when you get a job, and all your friends have jobs, and all of you are kinda geeky, so now everyone gets a katana, and now your entire group of friends goes 'eh, my katana is better than yours' as they compare katanas.

And then you get to watch them react to the news that you don't care about the ninth katana you've seen that week.
Ugh this.

Everyone who has a bit of dollah buys one, crikey you can buy one pretty cheap nowadays too. I bought mine from an umbrella store of all places.
They're not impressive to own anymore, at all.

I'd probably point out a swanky desk more than a Katana.

I want one.And I also want a kendo sword. Why? Because I would practice with the Kendo sword,so I wouldn't accidentally cut something off.
A kendo sword is called a shinai, and you wouldn't train with that, its completely different. You would train using a bokken, and if you don't know how to use a bokken, then you can break bones pretty easily.

Those are one use at best, if it goes in, it will get stuck, and if you ever planned to get it back, you better be standing after you lose it. Curved swords were MEANT for cutting more, the curve allows it to cut and come out cleanly, while straight edged swords were not. A serrated straight edge would be pointless unless it's on something you plan to only use once. You can still get curved knives (kukri, wakizashi)

I've got 4 "katanas" in my room. I say "katanas" because 2 are really katanas, 1 is a cheap nodachi and the last is a straight blade with no hand guard (I don't know what it's technically called.

My best sword, it's scary as hell because I'm fairly certain you can cut someone in half with it.
Edit: Upon further inspection this pic looks like a lower quality version of my sword, strange...

I got them because I've always liked Katanas, they're really just works of art in the weapons world (even if now they're all mostly mass produced infomercial garbage) and they're just pretty I guess. Plus it can be fun to cut bottles in half.

I have three. Swords... Two handed katana, one handed katana, and a tanto. Came in a set. They be awesome. Once I move out and I actually have room I'll probably be collecting some swords. I more go in for the medieval ones though, broadswords, longswords etc.

Of course, who wouldn't given the choice?
Me. Honestly? I don't find katanas all that impressive. See, I don't "admire" weapons.I prefer to save my admiration for something like, oh...

Women.
Technological and scientific discovery.
Someone with true artistic skill.

Now, I will grant you that a katana (or any sword/weapon) that has been hand crafted by a master smith can be quite beautifully ornate, but otherwise, it's just a weapon. :/
