It's 5 millions, sorry very much.

Also, they can be wrong. Same as dozens of millions of people feeding on McDonalds every day.

As stated above, numerous times, it all depends on personal opinion.

World of Warcraft isn't a bad game, as such. It has lots and lots of content for high levels, which quite a few MMO's have a problem with, AND the game is designed to make the the trip from 1 to 80 as enjoyable as possible. The game may not be perfect, but it's doing a pretty good job of it. Not to mention that the amount of exp needed to get from 1-80 has been reduced significantly. I've been playing the game almost since it came out, and I still enjoy playing it. The people on my server are interesting and fun (of course, there's too many belfs and paladins and DK's, and naturally there are a few jackasses around).

I like all aspects of the game - levelling up (which some people find to be tedious and annoying work), PvE (getting gear and doing raids is easier that ever these days - the game has been simplified) and PvP (where many people complain about class balance, etc.. So what? Some classes will always be overpowered and others'll be underpowered. Rock Scissors Paper, anyone?)

Don't like the game? Move on, no one'll miss you.

although i agree with most of the comments made,
the phrase, 'it is a mediocre game' i do not agree with.
WoW is one of, if not the best MMORPG out there.

WoW includes a new dungeon and content with every major patch they release, as well as new gear and quests. New skins, rules and even major game changes like faction-swap features and PvP experience are all things released in a free-to-download patch. That's where your money goes, as well as maintaining the server.

Not that druids having new skins will stop me stabbing them dead.

It makes perfect sense that WoW is the most popular MMO out there. It simply hits all the right points for a succesful MMO.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that WoW's actually a pretty good game (or more precisely, a very good MMO). Class balance and boring grinds are definitely a problem, but they aren't as bad as they are in the other MMOs I've played.

It's pretty much like what UltraJoe was saying earlier in this thread: if WoW feels like a grind to you, you're probably doing it wrong. WoW can be soloed to 80, but that's not really how it was meant to be played. Either start a character along with a couple of friends or use the "refer a friend" promotion to get a higher level character to help you level up.

Speaking of which, if there is anyone here that's thinking about starting to play I'd be happy to help you get to level 80. Feel free to drop me a message =)

Hmm really? Well that must be a fairly recent change, but i confess i got bored and stopped playing about 6 months before WOTLK, thus not really giving me any reason to update.

Although do you get new ingame areas? As while quests and gear are nice, it's the areas that give people a big hard-on.

WoW's marketing scheme is cruel. it's a "strive to be the best & get to the end" without an actual end.

S'cruel i tells ya.

Effective though.

See alot of people seem to be saying "you're playing it wrong", but i found soloing was pretty much my only option, as anyone who had been playing the game more than 3-4 months probably had a lvl 60/70/80 characters and were busy playing around with them doing high level stuff, which left me with the small handful of people my level (most of whom were the aforementioned irritating, immature dipshits), and the high levels who had nothing better to do than kill someone 40 levels below them and camp their corpse for as long as they could until mummy told them it's bedtime.

Now while i get that the latter part can be removed by going to "Normal" servers instead of PvP, those TEND to be less populated than PvP, which pretty much only increases the former problem.

Also, unless some big changes have been made with GM's since i last played, RP servers were just an excuse to abuse anyone who's recreational interests you didn't share. (RPing)

The problem is that level 80 is the "fun" stage, Blizzard had put so much energy into making the highest levels the most fun, while letting lower levels wallow in a bland purgatory of grinding. It feels just like the inventive innovative "game" we thought we were buying is completly locked until we reach level 80. That being said Blizzard has proven themselves capable of doing innovative things, they have a whole boss battle that you do on vehicles for instance, they just didn't give the middle levels any reason to play besides get to level 80.

About 6 mo before WotLK came out they had a patch that implemented a whole new zone, complete with quests, a 5-man dungeon and a raid.

http://www.wowwiki.com/Isle_of_Quel%27Danas

But even before that they've released BGs, dungeons and raids with each new patch. I don't really know how you could've missed all that unless you didn't read the patch notes and just assumed it was all always in the game.

Never played it, never will because I'm far too likely to get addicted to it. In fact I don't play MMOs at all because they hold no interest for me. If I want the RPG element I'll play an exceelent single player one, if i want the social element I'll play TF2, if i want to grind I'll go bang my head off a wall for three hours.

ps. I will play the new Bioware MMO because a) its star wars and b) I love Bioware
