*looks at avatar* Laser Vision Cat says you should play Guild Wars.
Heh, but seriously... Guild Wars is fun, inexpensive (you can get all four campaigns for about $40 USD. yes that's total, not each), has loads of content and a generally good community, NO SUBSCRIPTION FEES, and is an all-round good time... especially if you happen to have a group of friends [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/members/Guild-Wars] to play with. *wink* As an added incentive, if you play Guild Wars 1, you can earn small bonuses [http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hall_of_monuments] for the upcoming Guild Wars 2.
Speaking of Guild Wars 2... It and Star Wars: The Old Republic are on the horizon. Both of those games are shaping up to be incredible; well worth checking out.
I've heard many good things about Rift. Some bad things as well, but it changes up the formula enough that it's worth a look.
City of Heroes I've heard is pretty good as well. Though it, like WoW, is starting to feel a little dated.
Lord of the Rings Online recently went "freemium". It can feel a little confining for new players, but it can be a lot of fun as well.
Aion is a decent game. Not that great, in my opinion, but a lot of people I know like it.
I should also mention League of Legends. I know almost nothing about it, but what I have heard has been rave reviews.
As I've said many times before:
Any MMO is only as fun as the friends you play it with.
