Ah shit, the fucking furries will be all over this.
Umad?

No but seriously, it doesn't have to appeal to furries, afterall they write or draw on the subject of anthropomorphisism, not nekos, inus, etc.
This is exactly what I was thinking, including the "Umad?" part.

Now, if they could bring out a pair of these shaped as Rabbit ears I may look into getting a pair. :3

If I wore that, I'd have problems. Seriously, who's idea was it to make the cat ears?

Oh science, when will you develop a cure for cancer instead of cat ears?
When Cancer gets sexy.

If they're standing up for more than 4 hours straight, should I go to a doctor?
I'm also curious as to how "accurate" they are - how well they reflect concentration or whatever it is they're reading. Ones that read emotional state would be really cool - droop when the wearer is sad, perk up more when they're happy, swing backwards when they're mad.

Neat little fashion thingy, but I'm mostly interested in other applications of the technology. Something similar which displays emotional state could be really helpful for people who otherwise have trouble communicating (mentally handicapped, stroke, whatever.)

That was cool, in a weird kind of way. Not as strange as this Japanese girl who came into my workplace with huge wings on her trousers. That was...bizarre to say the least.

Cute... I hope to see girls wearing these to conventions. If developed further, even those ears could convey many more feelings... like anger (turned backwards, tight on the head), curiosity (alert upright),relaxed/happy(sideways) etc...

That was amazingly creepy.

You know, if Japan used their technological progress for something actually practical, not only would they rule the modern world, but we would have a fully intelligent robot in every home in the world and there would be no one with any disabilities.

But, until then, we get to watch them slowly turn themselves into Anime characters.

Your Avatar made this post incredibly Ironic :p
How exactly? Amaterasu is a wolf. Nothing anthromorphic about her.

That's like saying it's ironic that I own a dog.
well it kind of is since ammy is a goddess in wolf form.
i think this is pretty cool though maybe if the could make a cap with dog ears...

Oh no, now all the cat girl fans are going to get a pair of necomimis. XD

I mean they are sort of interesting, but I'm just surprised that people would actually make something like this... Do Japanese people seriously want to be cats that much?

Heck, I'm half-Japanese and I like dogs more than cats but that doesn't mean I would dress up like a dog...

It's actually kind of funny when you think Japanese don't tend to show their emotions. The ears would lay flat all day.

Say what you like, all innovation is beneficial when it either;

A: Makes people happy
B: Does not degrade the living standards of others

I see no problem with such an item. I think it's damn cool ... not very ergonomic or aesthetically pleasing the strange way they sit ... but miniaturization will take care of that and anything that adds more quirky to this world of gunmetal grey and bitumen is always a nice thing.

Anyways, as I said ... criticize if you want, but 'the road to excess leads to the palace of wisdom' ... or in this case innovation, innovation, innovation. The sheer will to explore new ideas and learn new possibilities (regardless of application) will still lead to ever greater knowledge.

It matters not frivolity, if only if it creates divergent thought and a continued persuance of inspiration.

So good on you Japan.

This is a huge waste to resources, all hate on furries aside. They can make brainwave controlled machines and waste it on freaking cat ears? Why? Why is there a demand for this? Who thought this morning after waking up "Hey, it would be cool to have moving cat ears on top of my OTHER ears to wear in public?" Apply this to prostethic limbs and other useful items, brainwave controlled anything really, THEN make this kind of gimmick.
Developing this technology to that point requires money. So it's not a waste of resources to do this if it brings in a profit, thereby letting them study and tweak the way it works. Rinse and repeat for a bit and then we'll see prosthesis' that respond to your brain. The gimmick comes first, practical application later. That's just how progress works.
