Am I the only one who thinks this is all bullshit? How exactly does a headband "detect brainwaves" and "concentration"? If it was that easy to minaturise this shit, why are CT scanners the size of vans?

Umad?

No but seriously, it doesn't have to appeal to furries, afterall they write or draw on the subject of anthropomorphisism, not nekos, inus, etc.
I'm interested though.
EDIT: I think the ears go too low :/

Not exactly what I'd use that kind of technology for (Prehensile Monkey tail anyone? :D) but that's cool nonetheless.

I googled the word "inus" and got a tonne of japanese porn and corgi dogs, wtf does that word mean?
Neko is the japanese romaji for "cat," Inu is for "dog." "Jin" means person. So, the word neko-jin means cat-person. Inu-jin means dog-person. Both of these fall under the category of kemonomimi, literally meaning "animal ears." Kemonomimis are not furries, either. They are essentially just people with animal ears and tails. Usually nothing more. Now, furry fandom is much different. They're anthropomorphised animals made to look human. Two different concepts that don't go hand-in-hand and anyone making a knee-jerk reaction against furries (not you, quotee; I'm speaking towards others in this thread) are really just displaying ignorance of the subject and anger towards a fandom that is irrelevant to the subject at hand.

OT: I think they're very cute, but they look pretty bulky.

Haha, these are freakin' nice! xD

Step 1: Aquire these catears
Step 2: Talk girlfriend into wearing these
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit!

Shouldn't be too hard, as I've talked a girl into wearing a neko-maid costume once... :p

Also, I'm not a furry. The reason I'm throwing this "fact" out here is because some people automatically connect Nekomimi with Furries... It's like connecting cake and pies! It's not the same!

Dude, have you ever seen an EEG (Electroencephalography) recorder? They're not that huge, and a CT scanner works on a completely different method than the EEG recorder does. (I'm a radiograph-student, I think I'd know a thing or two 'bout it). I'm serious, you can measure brain activity with a headband-sized gadget using EEG principles. The CT scanner is something you'd use if you need to know every little detail about every nook and cranny inside the brain and get an image of it.

I don't care too much for the ears themselves but the implications of the technology are actually very, very intriguing.

I've got to admit, the technology behind that thing alone is pretty neat (let alone the endless connotations of actual cat-girls...if you're into that sort of thing).

Mind you I reckon that kind of tech (but it would have to be waaaaaay more advanced) would be better if it were a tail or an extra arm...or, y'know, as the much-needed limb replacements and wheelchairs that such Neko-techo was derived from.

ITS ADORABLE.

But I would still rather have an actual cat perched on my head.

Tell Japan to call me when they invent that.
That's already been done, and America beat them to it!

Oh! Only in America! What a bunch of crazy weirdos. Only they could do anything something like this!

Thanks for the video. It just shows how bizzare Americans are. I'm suprised the cat in that video wasn't shot or eaten by the end of it! Maybe by that weird 'Cartman' character those Americans love so much.

But it could have been a fetish of some kind. I mean, these are the people who invented the modern dildo, the realdoll, and the Fleshlight! Seriously messed up people, all of them.

Oh America, you've done it again, and put a freaking cat on your head and walked around in public!

*Notes the 3 pages of ignorant and naive comments by posters already and is aware of the irony*

Beh. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me.
I'm surprised everyone is freaking out that they are cat ears that respond to your brain waves, and ignore the fact that they fucking respond to your brain waves.

/facepalm

Your Avatar made this post incredibly Ironic :p
How exactly? Amaterasu is a wolf. Nothing anthromorphic about her.

That's like saying it's ironic that I own a dog.
well it kind of is since ammy is a goddess in wolf form.
i think this is pretty cool though maybe if the could make a cap with dog ears...
And since when have gods been humans?
I don't agree with the his comparison either, but aren't Shinto gods generally depicted as being humanoid?

[sub]Obviously that doesn't have too much of a bearing on the character in Okami.[/sub]
Shinto is animism and thus all things contain a spirit or 'soul'. It is not uncommon in Shinto myth to have athropmorphic animals, as well as people becoming animals. Also, Kami (gods) are not adverse to appearing as, or through, animals, such as the Kami, Inari's relationship with foxes. Additionally, via China, Japan has the Zodiac Animals which define personality via animal archetypes. But hey, in the quest to make Japan look like the weirdest country on earth, we can waive any understanding of cultural relativity in order to do so.

Yeah sure. Inu means 'dog'. You Googled it and only got images of dogs. Even changing the 'i' in 'inus' to an 'a' gets only pages of medical diagrams and images. Where ever you searched, it certainly wasn't Google.

You're not actually 'controlling' it.
It's like a motion sensor for the brain.
It detects your brain doing shit, and a trigger's tripped.
So it's not precise enough to do more than one or two things.
Practically useless, to be honest.

... I want a pair... *pout*

It would be cute and fun to wear around my friends. Although I would probably never wear it in public, unless I was in Japan.

a single small sensor, like in an EKG

a CT scanner actually looks at your entire brain and maps out activity.
the single sensor just notes activity in an area and responds to it.
plus, at CT scan can work in the outer brain areas, which is some weird part that the mapping of varies from person to person.

basically, someone rigged an EKG sensor to some electronic bits.

meh, I've seen better from Japan.

Besides the cute factor, they are not accurate at all, and it misinforms people about cats behavior.
