Bayonetta
murdering angels by summoning demons and killing God at the end of the game. How wasn't this game targeted by christian groups? did they just have to admit that it was awesome?
and now I give you... Bayonetta punching God into the sun.

I amazed that the game Left Behind was even allowed on store shelves. I have never seen anything more close-minded, juvenile, racist, sexist, stupid, offensive and retarded in my entire experience of playing games. I guess that's what you get when you turn a terrible book series that panders to the most extreme of ultra-conservative christian dolts into a game that operates entirely on wiping out other races and religions and perpetuating 19th century gender roles.

Who the hell QA tested Fallout: New Vegas? How the hell did they say"Yep, this is good enough." Did anyone play this game? Did they not know about the title wave of bugs? Seriously.
Think that's bad? I remember 'This is Football' back in the day being a game notorious for crashing, heck, it was nearly impossible for you to get through 2 matches without it crashing, every time I went into a store and it was available to play at the time, it was a crashed version that the staff probably cba to restart for the 100th time that day. Whats worse is that they released a sequel to it.....which was even worse! Exactly, how can a sequel be more buggy than the predecessor? Wouldn't you fix those bugs not at more :/
Maybe Bethesda hired the guys who made that game to QA test F:NV. Because that's the only way I can see any sense being made.

But it was released. It was just censored.

AVP wasn't though... nor was Borderlands.

There are even better video's out there.

What?

That's not what happened when I played it... although I didn't get too far in, but I'm pretty sure that you've NEVER played it and that's most certainly not what happens.

Thanks, because of your massive swipe at my religion, I now have to go and play a mediocre game just to prove you completely and totally wrong. Rawr.

To be honest, "getting away" with any sort of gruesome (dead space) or sexy material (GTA) in a R rated game, isn't really "getting away with something". These games are rated properly for the content that they have. Or are you saying that we shouldn't have games like this at all?

It would only be considered "getting away with something" if a PG or T game got some questionable content for it's rating.

I think the ESRB is good enough to rate games for the audience they are intended for. Just because something that could be seen as questionable or unsavory for one person could be seen as a necessary device of the story. There are things that have shocked me in games in the past, mostly in horror games since i'm a sucker for surprises, but nothing i think should have been removed from the game altogether.

Alternatively, what about games that should have caused a moral panic, but didn't?

My example, again, was Daggerfall. Sure, it was rated M, but that wouldn't stop a moral watchdog from noting that it had nipples... thousands of them. NIPPLES!

I can't imagine the game getting released today without utter panic about it, and I'm somewhat thunderstruck it didn't back in 1996 either.

You haven't even read the books have you? The early books are really not that bad at all and more of a Christan themed zombie survival story. Where instead of zombies it's the Anti- Christ and his minions.

The first books aren't really anymore pro Christ than say, Narnia.

That always did piss me off. Bayonetta, God of War, Dante's Inferno, Darksiders, THOSE were ignored by the Christian right. Mass Effect wasn't.
WHAT THE FUCK?!

Okay, now to the subject, my "They actually got away with this?" moment was the torture scenes in Black Ops. Not because they were gruesome, but because they seemed to indicate that after the first two games controversial images, Treyarch was just trying too hard. I wouldn't be surprised if there's a rape scene or dead babies in Modern Warfare 3.

Oh heavens above, I did. Wow. You made my entire evening right there.

By the way, consider reading my <link=http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/326.258867-Lets-Play-The-Elder-Scrolls-II-Daggerfall-Round-Nine>locally grown Let's Play of Daggerfall I haven't reached the high breast content quite yet, but it's only a matter of time
Shameless self-promotion, is there any other kind?!?
Anyway, I may give it a look, as I can't be bothered playing Daggerfell myself... I suppose I just got to the party too late.

Also, glad I made your evening there.

$10 says that someone will read that statement, forward it to treyarch and then modern warfare 3 will have a scene of a dead baby being raped... I'm going to hell.

well the Narnia books are actually a bit pro Christan beacuse Aslan is what the author thought Jesus would look like if he was a animal so...Aslan = Jesus making the books pro Christan.

It wasn't really much of a "How did they get away with this" moment, but it did seriously weird me out. It was the mission in New Vegas where you have to get someone for Mortimer of the White Glove Society to serve for dinner. Yes, I said someONE. I know cannibalism is completely plausible in that kind of world, but just going through the mission and convincing that St. Charles guy to willingly go to those... people, I actually felt unclean after I had done it.

No, they were released after Michael Atkinson, a politician, resigned. For those who don''t know who Michael Atkinson, he is an Australia politician, infamous for his banning and censoring of games in Australia. So Dead Space 2, which was made after Left 4 Dead 2, was able to be released because not only was Michael Atkinson gone but the laws he helped make and bring to fruition are now being reviewed by some people in government. There is also a petition going around to allow them to be sold and released in Australia, personally I don't know what side of the debate to be on, R 18 games would certainly change our gaming experience but it also might corrupt children more than Cod has done.

Now, after that mouthful of Australian politics I will answer the forum makers question.... Heh, I'm having some trouble here, ummmm I guess... Call of Duty MW2 when America is ripped to shreds by bombs and you can look up and see famous American landmarks burning to pieces.

I didn't find the bugs to be that bad at all. Maybe it's a PC thing, but the only bug that really killed me was a glitch that i brought about though mods. Everything else was little, like Radscorpions clips into the rocks.

Of course, when you compare that to games like Mass Effect 2, then yeah, was there ever any QA testing?

How about Fear 2(or was it the first one? It's been a while) where the entire plot is about a little girl is trying to rape both your mind and body. Also she's your mom somehow.

Though I've never actually be offended by anything, so I never think about whether or not something might be going too far. Blatant sexism and racism usually just makes me laugh - as it should.

Ooooh, or maybe that gay scene in Dragon Age if you play a male warden and sleep with Zevran.
