Water erodes rock, surf refers to the giant wave, the "surf," that the move summons in battle.
So the battle move summons a raging torrent of water that the pokemon slams into the opponent, and the out-of-battle move swims across the surface of calm standing water? Those two actions seem unrelated other than the fact that they both involve water,

the thing that doesn't make sense is ground is good against ghost, lol.
It isn't. Its good against poision. So, against Gengar, Haunter and Gastly, gorund is super effective against them before abilities were rolled out.
OT: Well, erosion for water against rock, if it was swim it would useless in combat, and thing about how they could breathe underwater bugged me as well. Also, you could for some reason send out a fire type under water. D:<
lol you're not the only one to correct me. *bangs head against wall*
Sorry mate, I didn't notice. :(

Yes, now it's grass/poison, but back in 1996 it was just grass.

It was always grass/poison, you're probably thinking of the 'special' stat.

Water erodes, bugs=fireflies and destroy dark, for surf the logic is that you are riding your pokemon like a board or at least holding on,that leg you never see on hoothoot is muscular to the max,and the main characters have gills.

Why is it that this land is filled with creatures, and yet you have to use a certain machine to teach a bird to Fly.

And Scyther cannot Fly. That one makes me mad.

The people on the thread that keep using erosion as an excuse for why water harms rock Pokemon are completely wrong.

Besides the fact that it isn't possible to produce that kind of pressure without specialized machines, there are plenty of episodes in the anime where rock pokemon as severely weakened or even defeated as a result of being exposed to water regardless of how they are actually exposed to it.

So yea, the erosion explanation is bullshit.
well played

Because bubbles can substitute for high pressure water cannons.

The erosion and high pressure water destroying rock makes sense for hydro pump, but when you think back to that time you killed brock's onyx with bubble it REALLY doesn't make sense.

maybe because pokemon would suck if it was ultra realistic? Also, in the matter regarding phychic v. bug, bugs crawl around on phychics and make them lose their focus. Then the phychic type pokemon blast them with magical powers.

I did not know that erosion formed the grand canyon over the course of several seconds.
Right, because stuff like Hydro Pump isn't extremely high-pressure water.
To be fair, in cases like bubble he has a point.

Bug being super effective against Psychic. Just why?
Psychics weaknesses are based around common fears. Ghosts, the Dark, Bugs.
Then why does Steel resist psychic?
Take some aluminum foil, right?

Now try to defeat it in an intellectual argument.
I was thinking that it's because crazy types are always using aluminium foil hats to protect themselves from the government's brainwashing waves.

Well, with the Surfing thing, I assume that your character is surfing on his Pokemon, not swimming alongside it or being carried on a floaty.

*sigh*

Ghastly is also part Poison. Ground does regular damage to pure ghosts. However, most ghost types have Levitate, so Ground does nothing.
Right. It's the poison that's weak to ground, not the ghost.

Note: it's Gastly.
Note the second: Gastly also has levitate, meaning that either zehydra hasn't played since Gen II, or Gastly wasn't the one being questioned.

Any game where my opponenet becomes my best freakin freind afterwards drives me nuts "LOLI JUST BEAT THE EVER LOVING CRAP OUT OF YOU IN SOME SORT OF GAME OR LITERALLY." "LOL YEAH LETS BE BFF's AND ADD EACH OTHER ON FACEBOOK." This is rather bothersome to me and shows up in many rpg's like Radiata Stories and such

I just realized something. Psychic is weak against bugs, dark, and ghost. What are three things kids are the most afraid of?
