*laughs softly*
This is why we have such high numbers of failure rates...because most are faux.
such blanket statements about hey I found a video online inflate the failure rates, users posting on multiple forums as though they are unique cases.
when the 360 slim was first released A person over at systemwars at gamespot had a legitimate failure, he took a picture, I know the guy.
within 5 hours his picture was being reused by multiple people on other forums as their ""legitimate failure"", multiple websites picked it up as an article. 1 person actually used the picture as proof his 360s failed in his review of the system at amazon.com.
any system will have failures, Sony fanboys actually believed Sony's claims of below 1%, Gameinformer on the otherhand in a marvelous survey where any one could answer with no proof they owned a 360...along with alot of other loose rules to the survey said the 360 had a 54% failure rate, and the ps3 had...9% (that's higher then below 1%)
but as I said any system will have failures, the 360 slim has been as redesigned as they could make it, from the release of a new system one can expect certain lemons. but all so MiracleOfsound there are a few problems with your post...
1.Component AV cable on the 360 doesn't support hd? odd...last I checked over component the 360 supports 480i,480p,720p,1080i,1080p. 1080p is based upon whether your tv will accept the signal over component, most TV's wont but some will, but all tvs with the capability of 720p/1080i will accept it over component.
2.One can buy a audio dongle to use hdmi, and optical audio or red and white cables or even Coax. Or if you want follow the many guides online on how to modify the combined connector so you can use hdmi and that connector at the same time.
3.The ps3 has never contained hdmi cables till the most recent releases, they have only contained composite till like the begining of 2010, you can find the hdmi and audio dongle for cheaper then you make out. You can't fault one company for doing pretty much the same thing every other company does.
4.No you have to actually take a vested interest in moving and shaking the system to get it to eat discs on most units, We have one destructoid video where he purposely waits till the game gets into full spin where he then lifts it up with a flinging upward motion (oh and there is a big green sticker on the front that says...DON'T MOVE)...another video where it takes less. In each instance the message of the day is...when your system is running at full speed...DON'T TOUCH IT.
Lets see, I have 2 360's right now, My original pro launch system which chills in my nephews room and hasn't failed yet, and my original elite which failed once to e74...when it failed I called Microsoft up, they understood my issues but because at that time e74 was not covered under 3 year, I had to pay, I explained I don't see why I should have to pay for a failure that wasn't my fault so they discounted my repair to 50 dollars. I sent it in, got it back, and its worked since.
How long did it take to get a new system? 1 week 2 days, A month later e74 went under 3 year and 50 dollars appeared on my credit card.
Most of the google videos are edited, Some are even obvious repeats of others, google links are often fake the person doesn't even own the system.
While there are some legitimate failures its been near 3 months now, We would have heard from some random bestbuy, gamestop, or other reference that the system is at an all time high for failures. all we have is a few people saying the system failed, some legitimate the majority fake as hell.
P.S: I all so must make light of your comments on Kinect...A product that was still in beta up till a few months ago, with most videos and commentary about failure coming from that time...really? your gonna use that? atleast wait till its released instead of making such blanket statements of but but but but this video and this article said this about kinect.
Note: I hate kinect, I wont be getting it or move, I dont even play my freaking Wii.
