If u want HDMI and components in at the same time take a screwdriver/knife and break the plastic housing in half. It won't hurt your cables and it works for me.
I was considering that but I don't want to void my warranty just yet...
If the plastic is connected to the cables, then breaking it should be no problem. you don't have to send the cables back if you ever need it serviced(at least i didn't, but to be fair that was 6 months ago, and obviously not with the slim), so miscrosofty will have no idea they are broken, and no problems should occur with voided warrenties.

every new conscel has growing pains, 2 of my cousins both bought a xbox and ps3 when they where 1st released, the xbox one of them bought over heated and a few other problems when it came out, my other cousin who bought the ps3 got one that couldnt play old games and it had another problem but i cant remeber what it was. iv got a xbox, had it for about 4 years and its only crapped out on me once but thats cause my dog got caught the pads cable and sent it flying, but apart from that its soldering on nicely, i might get a new slim xbox, but im keeping the old one as a back up incase the new one craps out like iv been hearing

Why do you bring up the point that moving it breaks the games? Who in their right mind would move a game console or anything for that matter with moving parts inside. You're just asking for trouble. You may as well take out the game itself and get a key and go crazy on that bad boy. Also as a side note people will always have problems and there needs to some indication on the console or system as to what the problem is which is why I liked the red rings of death. Although with Kinect it uses your joints or body fram to map your movement you you can hardly complain about wearingly slightly better fitting clothing. Although the other things are problems.
Especially when it comes with a sticker on the cd drive that says something along the lines of do not move the system while a cd is in tray.

Now does the red light mean your console has crapped out on you? Or is it what happens when the console shuts itself off because it was going to overheat? I mean if its the later and works fine again an hour later then thats perfectly acceptable. Infact many many electronic devices work that way, with the red light and everything.
my original xbox did that. it red ringed and i got mad and shut it off and i went to show someone the next day and i turned it on and it worked fine

Opening the 360 voids the warrenty to my knowledge. So if anything were to happen to my 360, say it fell over and is now unable to read discs or some other problem that would be increadibly difficult to fix myself, I wouldn't be able to send it off for repairs or return it. In short, I'd be left with an expensive black box.
Why would you stand it up? On my 360, the fan is on the bottom which means if you stand it up its just blocking the fan... then cooling issues... then melt down :s

As for the 360 I've gone throught about 7 of them. All preowned so don't take that as a general quality statment for the 360. Anyway the reason I keep getting 360's is that..... I actually don't know why I keep getting 360's but rest assured, it's a good reason.

In theory it is supposed to mean it has overheated and needs to cool down.

Unfortunately some people have found that the cooldown period needed is... forever.
I find that suprising. I once left Alan wake on for an entire day while I was out, and I haven't had any issues. I have the new slim, traded my elite in for it.
Haven't had issues with the hdmi component, not to mention that the first one you couldn't have hdmi and av cables in at the same time either.

I'm planning on buying a 360 Slim for my birthday and I play on my computer monitor.
The problem is that it doesn't have an HD port and therefore I use a DVI-HDMI cable to play on the PS3 on it. Will it work with said cable?
Also, I use the SCART's for sound on a fairly crappy stereo until I can afford a new surround setup. Will it work when I use both the HDMI and the SCART or is that utterly impossible?
Get the VGA HD cable from Monoprice. If you monitor has VGA as well as DVI then you're fine.
I'm using a HAMA HDMI-DVI right now, and I don't have the playstation in my room 99% of the time, it's just when we've got family visits, I've bought an HDMI-DVI because I wanted an Xbox in my room you know. And the VGA is connected to the computer.

I'm sorry if my post is very hard to understand.
You could unplug it from your computer and into the 360 when you need to play the 360. It's not convenient, but it does work.

The PS3 doesn't need to because sony went the install route. So instead of spinning the disc way to god damn fast the system just installs the important data and occasionally goes to the disc.
.

That's what MS should have done, Sony found a good solution. With a 360 you end up having to install anyway to avoid chances of hardware failure, so there's little point in having a 360 without a hard drive. MS should have done the same thing as Sony, continued doing what the Xbox had with hard drive by default (rather than regressing) and have mandatory installs. It's still Microsoft's fault, there's a solution to the problem yet they chose not to use it and instead pass the problem on to the consumer.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the systems choice to do this. I love my ps3. The damage to the discs however IS because the 360 seems intent on not using an install function.
It's nice to know the reason for it, but if you are able to explain it, then MS sure as hell should know, and it shouldn't have even happened in the first place. Or MS could have gone with hard drive install mandatory with the new S model and not released an Arcade version.

That was an argument when the 360 launched in 2005, and they had to rush it out to have a chance against Sony. You could forgive them then. Now, not a chance.

Microsoft has pictures and demos of it standing up. If you're not supposed to stand it up, have something unbalanced on the sides so you can't do it at all. The original Xbox wouldn't stand up, the PS2 would, but there isn't any need to copy Sony on that if it causes problems.

Now we just need to remake it with the new red dot of death.

No, I have not bought a slightly improved upgrade for my perfectly fine 360 Elite. And Kinnect Ready? Wireless built in? Madness. Wireless? Use a cross over cable and a wireless laptop, and Kinnect Ready? I am sure I will finally find a use for the USB on the back of my 360.

Does this surprise anyone? Even the guy at Gamestop was telling me that he tells people to go with the older ones and be careful with the new ones 'cause they will probably fail and have problems since they are new.

I don't, My Xbox is in a cabinet that I keep open to allow it to breathe. What if I needed to move it and I accidentally dropped it, or it fell off the shelf due to something shaking it off. That's more of what I am talking about.

I stopped reading the moment you said "Micro$oft". Come off it. I acknowledge that they're scamming you with that inconsiderate piece o' plastic, but that just throws my internal voice off completely and makes it hard to follow.

I'm going to honk my Inaccuracy Horn here and point out that it is possible to "install" any game on the 360, just that it's a) entirely optional, unlike the PS3, and b) the only way to access it (AFAIK) is by pressing Y on the "Play *insert game name here*" option. And yes, installing it does stop the disc spinning during gameplay.

Honestly? It's too soon to write off the Slims as having the same old problems, in my opinion, since for all I know these could be isolated incidents. I know new consoles have duds in the first batch: my first DS (which had the Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt demo) started crashing in Mario 64 DS, and when the crashes spread to WarioWare Touched!, I replaced it. I'd imagine there was similar stories around the Lite and the DSi's launch. Point is: if the reports keep coming in over the next few months, then you can start badmouthing Microsoft for their continued inability to make a working 360.

(Oh, and I do have a Slim. Won it in a competition.)

I've been selling these consoles at work, as well to two of my close personal friends and neither of them have even had a whisper of a problem. Show me failure rates worse than that of any other system, god forbid anything near the original rrod and i'll be concerned, otherwise, on your bike.
