I've had my Xbox 360 since the day it launched, it's still in perfect condition. I have 7 or 8 friends that all bought the slim the day it came out and have had absolutely no problems with it. In fact i've not met a single person that had a RRoD.. Guess we're just lucky?

How can there be problems with Kinect? It isn't released for another... what, two and a half months? Doesn't it have to be released before there can be solid criticism on faulty hardware?
Plus, people wearing clothes baggy enough to interfere don't deserve to play games anyways. Seriously, put on a belt, because I don't want to see your underwear.

Yeah, the 360 does like to eat disks, but the obvious solution to that is just to not move the 360. That seems to work fine for me. Only one game I have has ever gotten scratched up (A good two years ago), and the toothpaste trick fixed that up real quick.

As for the RDoD, well, I'm sure no one expected the slim to work perfectly, so, whatever.

Wow that sucks, but why would you move your Xbox 360 when there is a disc inside of it? I wouldn't even move it when it's on, just to be safe. Just because technology is advanced dosen't mean you can't break it. Thankfully my xbox 360 has only gotten the red rings once, on the same day my PS3 decided to stop working for no reason. It was a sad day.

Also... it does not ship with ANY HD connectors. That's right, you have to buy another cable separately if you want HD gaming. Thankfully Micro$oft have, in their wonderfully generous and altruistic company, boxed these two cables for us in a handy package costing 25 euros.
no system comes with hd connectors.

In fact xbox used to come with 6 prong component cables where ps3 never did.
My PS3 did...it's how it's connected now...
Look, Xbox's have problems, and so does every console ever made.
The disk thing annoys me (oh crap, my cat bumped it when I was playing Halo, now I have to buy it again would REALLY wear on me)
The overheating annoys me. My friend found a workaround-buy a fan, and just set it up pointing at the 360 and use it when playing. He's had an original for three years and it's still chugging.
Lastly-do you really need HD cables? Is there some other way around it? I have an HDMI set into the Wii, and the PS3 plugged into the speaker/subwoofer tower, which has an HD feed to the TV. I don't need an HD cable for the PS3, and I can cycle through everything using the speaker tower (PS3,TV etc, have different slots). Maybe you could try finding a workaround.
Frankly, I just am to paranoid for an Xbox. I know PS3s fail as well, but it looked like a much lower rate. Plus, RATCHET AND CLANK and infamous

So it seems they're going the PS3 route of keeping everything separate so you have to pay for everything. Can't say I'm surprised.

So it seems another Microsoft console has major problems. You'd think that they would learn after the first time they released a console with many hardware flaws.
WTF are you on about? You don't have to pay for everything with the PS3, everything is included. If you want an extra controller you pay for that... that's about it. Oh, and games of course. If you have a sound system with optical in you already have a cable, and for HDMI, the new ones included it anyway, and when they didn't they were less than $10 from Monoprice.
The PS3 comes with a hard drive, a controller, a power cable, and a standard AV cable.

Everything else you need to buy. With the possible exception of the hard drive, which you can replace with your PC hard drive if you ever feel like it.
And what else do you need to buy? There isn't anything else you need beyond more controllers (which is standard practice), and with new PS3s you don't even need to buy an HDMI cable.
Bluetooth headset. That's the one that annoyed me.
If you already have one for your cell phone you can use that though, and the one you get for the PS3 is also cell phone compatible. It's not like having to buy the headset for the 360 that is only compatible with the 360.

That's the excuse? Seriously?
No, thats fact.

faster something spins, the less margin for error in well anything.
Sure, but then either build it with higher quality so error is less of a problem or slow down the spin speed.
Ya know they do include manuals for a reason. Just so happens the average person is a moron and doesn't read things.

That's really unfair, but I'm sure sticking it near the window with the sun on it in summer wont help. I hope the next xbox doesn't have this problem, or I hope the games I like are on the next playstation (at the same time).

My Arcade version is just fine, thank you! However, I would like a sexy new Slim.

My old Xbox though, had many problems. My uncle's friend won an Xbox in a competition, and decided to sell it since he already had one. The price was fairly generous so I bought it. The catch was that I was given the old Xbox, a launch one, I believe. What a dick.

It was as loud as a chainsaw, and sometimes slightly scratched my discs. After a while it started to have trouble reading discs, and eventually stopped reading them all together. It RROD'd a total of 3 fucking times (and somehow worked still, barely). I just gave up and bought a new one, which works perfectly!

So many people on this forum are really smart, intelligent dudes and dudettes (such as yourself miracle) but when it comes to the 360, you all seem to a have a big, soft, daft spot for it.

The problems with 360's are infamously legendary and yet you all accept it and get another, when (I chose "when" 'cos "if" just doesn't capture it) they brake.

If a phone or car or something else had a problem like this it would be made an example of and rarely bought but how many people are on there 3rd/4th/5th 360? Or how many disks have been eaten?

Just strikes me as odd, every time I consider getting one I think "nah, it will only brake and I will be out of pocket and missing a console for a week or two".
Very true, I guess all I can say in our defense is... goddamn Mass Effect 2 blew my mind. As did Limbo, Gears 2 and all those lovely exclusives!

You should have knows that this would have been a problem in the new 360s as it was one in the old ones as well. They just have a tray that you put your cd in the same as a pc, it doesnt have a locking mechanism to keep the disk in place like the wii or ps3. That means that if you move it it will get scratched. Which is why they warn you never to move your 360 while a disk is in the system.

One is meant to be moved around alot the other is made by microsoft and not meant to be moved with a disk in the tray so they didnt include the locking mechanism thats in your cd walkman or laptops/etc.

.
I did know it would be a problem, therefore I avoid moving it.

That still doesn't make it any less of a fail.

You do know you can just plug it directly into your tv and have your tv run to sound system.
Not if

a) You use Turtle Beaches or stereo connected 'XBOX Compatible' gaming headphones

b) Your TV does not have Audio Out phono jacks
An HD television that doesn't have audio out? Does that exist?
It has headphones out, which is a single jack connection. Most gaming headsets use two connectors which I used to run through the component Av cable in the previous 360.

Ummm the whole point of HDMI is that your audio and video run HD through a single cable, minimising clutter. I have my blu-ray player, PC, PS3 and 360 running HDMI straight into my amplifier and then the sound is directed from there. (and it works perfectly) There is no reason to be using HDMI and AV cables.

Also I have had no issues with my slim as of yet... here's hoping it stays that way!!

A manual isn't an excuse for a problem.

Seeing as how migo is already very anti-xbox, I'll take this advice with a pinch of salt.

Edit: Mistook OP for different user.

Why buy a Slim?
My 360 has never run into any problems (there was a false RRoD on it once, but it was because the 360 used more watts than we thought). The hard drive can be easily replaced for more data, and I don't give 2 stuffings about Kinect.

EDIT:by the way, my 360 was bought in January 2008, before someone says its simply new.

Did you honestly just ask that?

...

Because that's a good question.
