I keep hearing over and over again that the PS3 is so expensive, but I really don't quite understand it. My Playstation 3 cost me $399.99. My Xbox 360 Elite cost me $399.99. Same price. Yes, the 360 elite comes with a few extras for the cost. Most notably a 120GB hard drive in comparison to the 80GB PS3 hard drive. Also it comes with a headset for communicating online, which you have to buy separate for the PS3. But lets not forget that you have to actually pay a subscription fee to play games on Xbox Live, and you don't on the Playstation network. Plus, you have to pay a frakkin ridiculous price for the wireless attachment if you'd rather your 360 have a wireless connection to the net. PS3 is wireless out of the box.

The initial cost to purchase a PS3 is not much greater than the 360...unless you're going the cheapest route and buy the 360 Arcade version. But once even that is upgraded all the way, the prices are so close that it seems pointless to argue about it. Add in the yearly price of Xbox Live and it seems very clear that the 360 has the potential to be the most expensive.

All right, I'll bite, as I am a PS3 owner (of the rare 60 gig variety). I bought a PS3 for a few reasons:

1. Backwards compatability. Now this point is all but useless for those that did not get the version of the system I did, but for me, who shelled out the dough, it was a valid reason. I wanted to be able to play all of my numerous PS2 and PS1 games. (although to this day, I still cannot play the Guitar Heros...)

2. Future exclusives. God of War, Disgaea, Armored Core (at the time), Final Fantasy (as well) were all Sony children. They weren't available on the other system, and so I chose to follow the games I liked. Sure, a couple of them have lost that exclusivity, but the ones that remained and the ones that have emerged (Valkaria Chronicles and LittleBigPlanet for example) are good enough to convince me to stay.

3. The Xbox's unreliability. My friend bought an Xbox...and replaced the drive in it twice. He bought the 360 and replaced it from the red ring twice now. My PS2 original fatboy? Still running. My PS3? Still as good as the day I bought it. I don't want to have to replace my console multiple times, let alone once.

4. The games that I liked on the Xbox were available elsewhere, and for the most part, better. KOTOR? PC. Mass Effect? PC. Fable? PC. Oblivion? PC. Halo? Any PC shooter... There was nothing on the XBox that wasn't done elsewhere that was desirable to me, whether that be the PC (where the game was always better than the XBox counterpart) or the PS3, where it was at least equal.

For me, that was 4 marks for, and none against for the PS3. I am still happy I bought it to this day, as there is nothing for the 360 that has shown up to make me "want" the system. I'm sure tha Fable II will come out for the PC, as well as Mass Effect 2, and they are the only two that I was really looking at. Maybe in the future, but Microsoft had best fix their unreliable hardware before I even think about it...
