Ok, I can't even tell the difference between an Xbox version and a PS3 version. Maybe I have horrible eyes, but the games never really look all that different to me.

Also they should just release final fantasy on a dozen discs like they used to.
there was actually a rpg released on xbox 2007or08 and it had four disc's,you probably heard of it (can't remeber name)it was by the same guy who who wrote for the final fastasy's or something(kind of vague i can't really remeber who).i don't know why i had so many discs it was average rpg lenght, but there was a rediculess amount of cutsences(probably by the guy that made X ;),though they were very pretty.(this was ment to be a short "by the way" post)

This is pretty funny. In a sad and pathetic way.

More importantly, though - why the hell are companies using cutscenes in adverts instead of actual gameplay footage? That's the only real misleading going on here.

Shouldn't they be banning the GoCompare advert for crimes against humanity?

Speaking of crimes against humanity... [http://uk.videogames.games.yahoo.com/blog/article/14686/page-4/]

Oh dear god, X Factor -and- Pop Idol? How have I gone so long without such classics in my collection?
Pop Idol proudly boasts 60,000 words of encouragement and put-downs! HOW COULD YOU NOT HAVE BOUGHT THIS ALREADY?

And apparently nothing else of importance is happening that the Yahoo! team is currently aware of.
This made me lol
OT: I don't think it's a big deal if you can't actually tell, as a viewer, that it's from the other console, but I own both and so maybe that's the reason for my complete lack of caring about the competition. Still it is misleading so I see their point

There's something much bigger going on here something beyond videogames. Hmm, isn't Xbox an American product? And haven't there been a lot of foreign developers talking shit on MS recently. Oh well, I'm sure it's just a coincidence.

OMG, so you think it was a British Petroleum executive on the grassy knoll shooting Kennedy so that aliens could take over the White House?

There's no conspiracy theory here. The Advertising Standards Authority is just flexing its muscles so it avoids Government cutbacks. It's also pulled a British Telecom ad for being misleading on broadband speeds.

I'd agree with that. I want to see the actual gameplay rather than some CG footage, since that is what you will primarily be doing in the game, playing it.
Unless your playing Metal Gear Solid 4

It's really not that huge of a deal, but still... if they're going to be showing off one version, they shouldn't be showing footage from the superior version and hope no one will notice.

Personally I think it's stupid. They were using CG's in the advertisement. The only difference in the 360 version is that they were compressed to fit on the disk. They just used the uncompressed versions on the advert, as you would.
Not how it works, mate.

I would be JUST AS BAD if they took the uncompressed video directly from Square-Enix and fobbed it as a cutscene from the game.

And compression has a HUGE effect on video quality. If the data is not there, then the detail cannot be there as well. One of the biggest cons in HD video at the moment is to fob off resolutions like 720p and 1080p as "HD" even though the bitrate is barley higher than standard definition.

Keeping the bitrate and quality of algorithm the same, 480p and 720p will appear to have the same quality with both upscaled to 1080p. Xbox 360 is forced to use very low bitrate for the MANY HD-cutscenes in FFXIII. Bitrate is the key and 360's DVD's just can't hold enough.

Also the advert didn't JUST show pre-rendered cutscenes but also live-rendered cutscenes and also actual gameplay footage... all from the PS3 version. The ad-standards agency found the difference to be significant.

But who cares, it was a crap game anyway.

What is more telling is how sloppy Microsoft are to have done this or allowed an ad agency to do this... I mean this just inevitably lead to the official "360 sucks by comparison" and "we caught you trying to cover it up in a really lame way".

I still worry how much Xbox 360's development negatively affected the development of FFXIII, the 3-disc structure forcing the game to be more linear... I don't know about that at least.

Snooty British Aliens at that. But don't worry, Mel will save AhhhMericaH!

(Patriotism aside, my dad works in the oil business so you can take it from him BP is one shifty organisation. They have a very bad reputation even in the industry, but they bring the big money in so are pretty untouchable.)
