Why are people saying "anyone would report that."? Did they read the article?

Anyone DIDNT report it... the information that is given is that 1 guy reported it... and the initial suspicion was brought on through a conversation made possible because of the gaming industry.

Also, bonus question: Why do they mention where Port Alberni is at the nend?

YES! YES! YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! WE FINALLY HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY AGAINST SOCCER MOMS. I mean in the past we could just say its common sense that games dont cause violence, & while thats still true now we have a CLAIM TO THIS SHIT. Oh my god this has cheered me up so much tonight.

Go and be merry my fellow gamers, for we have won this battle, but the next world will require more 1ups if we plan to finish this fight without cheatcodes

Aaaand I was right, the kid was just being an idiot
He also got caught, which pretty much means any plans he did have are done for. It's pretty easy to say "I'm sorry, and I never meant to actually follow through on any of that" once you're facing the authorities. He may never have carried out any of what he said and maybe he was just spewing garbage online, but the fact he's saying sorry about it now isn't really a confirmation or a denial of how serious it could have been had it not been reported.
Yup, a 16 year old getting a gun from a "Marine" and shooting his best friend and a pregnant girl in the head and telling everyone while playing "Call of Duty" sounds like a plausible enough story to me.
Not to mention that they apparently found no evidence of any kind of planning, a letter or something or any kind of weapons on the kid for that matter o_O

I agree that if this was likely serious he would have a plan or something of that matter, but that does not mean the thoughts themselves weren't or couldn't have been serious. Every plan like this does have to start somewhere. And getting a gun from a Marine us certainly nebulous but who's to say this kid doesn't know someone in the Marines (or would have found one somewhere else when his Marine plan didn't work out.. they aren't exactly that hard to get).

The fact is neither of us were on the line with the kid, so we have no real idea what was said or how it was said and that does play a large part in it. Personally, even if the story sounded a little far fetched to me, if the one telling it sounded serious enough I think acting on it is the prudent thing to do. I'm sure people who would have heard the Columbine kids talking would have thought they were just talking shit, and maybe at first they weren't too serious about it either, but we all know where that led.
