What a disappointment. Beside the controller and forza 5 for the fans(which I aren't part of), it was just bad. The xbox looked way too big. They didn't do any effort to address the negative rumors. They focused way to much on Media business which isn't interesting for the gamers. I find the name just silly. A lot of the services will not be available for countries outside the US.

Steven Spielberg getting a big bag cash and making a TV show for Halo, because that is what people want.

Infinity Ward trying to sell leaning as a new thing. Top. Fucking. Lel. That is just golden.
I remember when they were trying to tell PC gamers that they didn't need lean in Modern Warfare 2, and how not having it would improve the game. And now look what's happened.

Anyway, here are my thoughts:

Pros:

I didn't see any stupid fucking avatars.

Seeing a dog in a mocap suit was pretty awesome.

8 gigs of RAM, 500 gig hard drive, and a blu-ray drive are all nice things to hear.

I now know I'll be saving $400 plus dollars come this holiday season.

Cons:

Xbox One is a stupid name.

It took them 28 minutes before they started talking about any of the games that would come out on the thing.

It seems far more focused on being able to do things that I can already do on just about every device I own than being able to play games.

They revealed 7 games, only 2 of which are exclusive, and only one was a new IP. Also, 4 were EA sports titles. At least the PS4 conference had some games that could turn out to be something interesting.

Call of Duty still looks like one long excessively linear Micheal Bay setpiece.

Revolutionary architecture? Remember the last console that came out with revolutionary architecture? And remember how it had years of shitty ports (if there were any ports at all) because no one knew how to develop for the damn thing? Learn from your competitor's mistakes, Microsoft.

This conference did nothing to alleviate any of the concerns people had about this system, or address any of the problems people had with the 360.

Overall, this conference was really shitty. I mean, the PS4 conference wasn't great, but at least it got me somewhat interested in the console, instead of turning me off entirely. I wasn't expecting much, but I'm still very disappointed.

So a mandatory fee for used games (not just online-pass bullshit)? Can't wait for more people to hear this. Now I can definitely see why EA wanted to partner up with Microsoft.
And that pretty much put the nail in the coffin. All right, I think it's time to put Windows 7 on my Mac.

I guess we now know why EA dropped their online pass, they partnered with Microsoft and the Xbox One will be handling that shit for them. Also means that you will need to have your XB1 online atleast every time you buy a new game. It will be like buying a physical copy of a Steam required game. The option to never take your console online is not there.

Okay, funny things:

1. "Rocket Science Level Stuff"...so we're back to the year 2000? We passed Rockets a while ago...

2. PS4 had an excuse to NOT allow backwards compatible: They scrapped the Garbarge CELL Processors for a x86-64 Architecture; games don't have to switch. Xbox3 (I REFUSE TO CALL IT THE 1) has the SAME architecture, just with an upgraded OS...there's NO reason to NOT allow Backwards Compatibility. No confirm on Gaikai-like service that PS3 offered, where you can play <PS4 Games on Gaikai, full functionality.

3. They keep on giving us stats on how much photons that the camera records...like 13 Billion Photons. LOL This is funny... considering the camera on the back of your camera phone records the EXACT same amount of information. Its a fancy way of saying "we put a 2.0 Megapixel Camera on top of it."

4. ONLY 8 GB of RAM? Completely standard... 16 GB should have been the norm if you want to future-proof.

5. Three Operating Systems in one? You couldn't go with one OS so that way you're not running into collusion problems? Oh, your third OS is supposed to connect the two OSes? I mean, what is with the three OSes besides having an overly complicated switcher?

Argh...this console generation is terribad, and I'm not even out of the hardware brief.

Oh yeah, "A controller designed by gamers, for gamers?" I laugh.

Apparently you have to install games to a single account to play them. If another account wants to play the game, they have to pay a fee.

So yeah... looks like Microsoft are actually going to try and stamp down on used games sales.

Nice knowing you Microsoft. Looks like the three horse race just lost a horse.
Not necessarily. I am betting that all accounts on the same console will have access to the installed games. Isn't that how it works now on the 360?

The game will be tied to your Live account and to the console.

Very little to appeal to gamers sad to say but no less than I expected, footage of the new cod, forza and ea sports titles, but other than that it was pretty much showing off voice commands yet again, more tv style video content, and of course the tried and true microsoft buys exclusivity rights to popular content in order to disadvantage their competitors instead of doing something worthwhile themselves strategy.

Its been a long while since I laughed so hard as I did when the woman who introduced the halo series said that csi and survivor were " innovative"
Well at the time Survivor was innovative and it was the series that really popularized reality tv. Even CSI's popularity spawned a TONNNNN of crime dramas trying to win some of the success themselves.
All survivor did was combine gameshows and reality tv and Csi wasnt the first crime drama and besides they might have been sort of fresh when they started but they have done very little to innovate since and they are two of the most predictable and formulaic tv shows ever.

Yes theyre both very popular, but she said they were innovative, which popularity has nothin to do with.

Can anybody explain the new controller to me? As far as I can tell the only difference with the old controller is that its going to use some arbitrary BS to keep people from using old controllers on the new console.

it has to be the single most impressive satellite TV receiver i have ever seen, thank god i wont have to install a dish again when i move. i dont know about playing games on it, but 10 years ago it mightve been an impressive multi-media device, too bad they didnt get the memo that the entire concept behind their console is a dozen years outdated; we can already do all that and more and *gasp* portable as well. i get all my tv from netflix and hulu, which is only a few shows that i care to follow, i hardly need a giant obsidian brick to accomplish that.

this reveal has made me 100% certain that not even consoles know why they still exist. if not for the nostalgia of keeping classics alive, i really dont see the reason to owning this other than maybe some microsoft exclusive titles you might want, and fat chance they wont want to cash in on digital distribution with a PC port that the modding community will graciously make playable for them.

captcha: one hit wonder. lightning doesnt strike twice microsoft, time to try something different.

Actually, out of everything from that conference, that was the most intriguing and I'm not even a fan of the series. :/

Not a good first impression. A one hour presentation and i still haven't gotten a reason why i as gamer should buy the damm thing. I don't care about all those features and you'l be hard pressed to find gamers that do. The race for the living room isn't a fight concoles can win, nor is it one they should be fighting to begin with.

The reveal was also way to Yank-centric. I seriously doubt even half of the services they showed will make it to Europe.

And whats the name supposed to mean? Xbox one? one? aren't they two consoles past number one?

Ahem... apparently not. If Wired's hands-on is anything to go by, they're actually going to charge other accounts to play the same game.
I hope not. I would like to see what Gamestop has to say about this. Most likely they will just treat XB1 games like they treat current Online pass games.

Allegedly licenses for movies, music and other content will be transferred over, but not games
This is just sad.

If you were watching the presentation you'd see that Microsoft is focusing more on entertainment than Sony, something Wired also picked up on during its hands-on time.
Wired should have picked up on the bolded years ago. I hope no one was surprised to see so much TV stuff and so little game stuff. That's been the focus every since Kinect came out and I really don't think E3 will be any different this year.

If Sony does this (the no used games or 100% online passes), and they might since they are leaving this stuff up to the publishers, then I will have no choice but to go back to Nintendo.

That has to be the UGLIEST box I have ever seen. No charm. None. Just a big black brick.
For a cable/satellite box, it is pretty good looking.

The gaming portion of the Xbox One press stuff is coming at E3.
Even my cable box has more visual flair than the Xbox One.

Did you misread something, or did you link the wrong article. It does not say anything of the sort, only that it has a one time install. That likely means it will be console linked, not account linked. At no point do they say account, they say owner, those are two completely separate words.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not with this practice at all, and I see it as a deal breaker, but I don't need to make stuff up to make it sound worse than it already makes itself look.

Wait a second, what are this systems internet options going to be like?

I mean we saw how the system wants to integrate with TV, but we all know how the 360 is about allowing you to surf the webs openly.

Like it or not pure gamers are a minority slice of the pie now that consoles can do everything that was shown just now.
What Microsoft just revealed wasn't a console. It was an Entertainment system. It's an ingenious move and I expect Xbox One to sell a whole lot of units to people that don't even play games. Those sports/TV deals alone will bring in a far wider demographic.

Games aren't the primary be all and end all of a system now it seems. The market has evolved and Microsoft has seemingly evolved with it. I know almost everyone will see this as a negative thing but the REALITY is that pure gaming consoles are obsolete from a business perspective. Sure they could've gone that way. But by creating an Entertainment device instead of a console they have opened up the opportunity for one of these to actually be in every home, Which I think is a SPECTACULAR move on their part.

The exclusives with EA (Despite General gamer opinion their sports games make a ridiculous amount of money) NFL, NBA and COD (I think they mentioned something about a partnership) Have pretty much ensured this device's success regardless of how Pure Gamers feel.
