i already own it and am enjoying it.

its my opinion however that there are some major losses in SR3 compaired to SR2

that and the crappy sound effects =P

Nitrus sounds like really bad dubbed Japaniese movie. the car goes woosh and a second later you get the nitrus sound effect lol.

the storyline has suffered the massive freedom it had in SR2 and is bascially nearly entirely made up of what is little more than submissions/dirversions. each story mission in SR2 was unique. SR3 a good chunk of them is bascially copy/paste dirversions.

there are also less freedoms in the customizations that range from minor to massive. the largest is how clothing can be customized. you used to be able to create purely custom outfits using multi layers of clothing for vaired effects. in this game thats dropped to nearly 1/3 of what you could do in SR2.

over all i would say its a fun game but its not quite as good as SR2 was.

of course i hold SR2 as one of the best games i ever played with only minor issues relating to gameplay.

Yahtzee will enjoy it but idk if he will like it better than SR2 overall.

Yahtzee. Murderer of Games.
I like it.

Can't say for myself, as I haven't played any Saint's Row game, but Yahtzee tends to "murder" anything he plays that he doesn't have fond memories of or finds truely innovative, but that's his style. He's said himself that he's a critic, not a reviewer.

It's a little weird to see the nostalgia affect work on that one.

In the original review, he rips on it pretty hard. A few years later, and he holds it up like a golden standard while tearing into bioshock2. C'est la vie de la critics I suppose...

Saints Row 3 so far is really disappointing compared to SR2. The music isn't as good, the mission structure is too linear. I don't feel compelled to explore at all. They made a mistake letting you use your phone as a mission hub, I never feel compelled to look at the map so I don't go looking for side content.

Maybe I'll feel different later but I'm only three hours in and I think I'm halfway through act 2. :/

Also...
Gat's death? LAME. Off screen, I didn't even believe he was dead until the Boss and Shaundi are driving a hearse at the start of Act 2 so I assume they actually recovered his body. Wtf, Volition? Daniel Dae Kim too expensive to do more than a few lines?

so much of the good stuff is compeltly gone. yes its more wacky and over the top but too much that made SR2 a great game is gone, making SR3 just a "good" game.

many aspects of SR3 will appeal to him like no other game has but i feel that SR2 will seem the better overall in his eyes.
Who cares about his opinion anyway :p
I believe he said somewhere that you should not look to other people for a 'yay' or 'nay' on buying games. Can't remember for the life of me what episode. He will take the piss out of it no matter what. He's a cynic :p

It's what he does.
I believe it was the one where he responds to the fans after Smash Bros Brawl cos of their stupidity

I don't understand your post. Why didn't you just write your own review? Yeah Yahtzee's funny and good with animations but that's not stopping you spending a bit of time sharing your opinion. Chances are he won't have the exact same opinion as yours anyway so it's not like his review will have everything you'd like to say about the game in it.

Specifically, what's gone that lessens the enjoyment?
They removed some of the Barbie dress up. Which some people apparently obsess over.
It'd be a much better game if you were locked down to using this character anywany:

I do kinda miss FUZZ and crowd control. However, Hijacking a car by jumping through the windshield never loses its charm as a spectacle. But then again, there are quick-time events (though rather aptly applied at rare events). I dunno, it's on the cards. I'm having fun with it :D

I would've had the first post here, and I was pleased with what I had written, but before I could post, the escapist said 'no you don't' and flicked me back to the previous page, and when I returned my text was gone. But I will try and re-create what I had said.

Yahtzee's probably not going to murder Saints Row, it's more likely he'll be saying "I knew it". This has been a very over-hyped game unfortunately, and though I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, it will depend on whether there is more surprise content than what has already been "spoiled" in the trailers.

I think Volition and Rockstar do this to themselves. Can't they get together for a friendly cup of tea to work things out and say, look we'll do the more wacky type of sandbox game that's our type of thing, and well do our gritty sandbox game that's what we enjoy making, but just because that's our things doesn't mean we have to go in extreme polar opposites. Stop Saints Row from becoming constant zombies and blowing up peoples testicles, and stop GTA from becoming a painstaking realism simulator where you have to carpool your cousin for bowling and darts (before you get to do anything fun in the story). We can do a healthy balance of structure, and of the kind of silliness that videogames are meant for.

But they seem to want to go in opposite directions to distance themselves from each other and keep within their "demographic", even though GTA was doing it fine from 3 to San Andreas.

If they joined forces we could see a city-sandbox game that would make Goldilocks shit her pants.

The Third is worse than 2? Could have fooled me after playing a bunch of it already. Did 2 have:
car crushing tanks, laser guns and mind controlling octopuses, VOTL future jets, mini A-10c warthog, as crazy missions, nut-and-run, cruise missile laptop, a car that fires people from a cannon, and real co-op?
There's a lot more to this one it seems.

And even if he did tear it up, that's what he does, even if he loves a game he'll find a nit to magnify, pick and rant about. That's what makes it entertaining.

If anyone actually listened to Yahtzee's opinions, no one would play anything except for Silent Hill 2 over and over again.
I'm not sure but I think in a retrospective review (possibly for Silent Hill 3) he might've mentioned some flaws with 2.

Regardless, a real Yahtzee fan knows that he is very biased towards things he likes or has a nostalgic connection with, he always gives an explanation to what he does or doesn't like in the game he's reviewing, and if you can use practical puzzle solving skills you should be able to figure out whether a game he hates is something you might be interested in or vice-versa.

He likes games that are different to what else is currently being offered, and do it well, which is why he liked Saints Row 2 in the first place.

I actually like SR3 over SR2, mostly because I am not forced to do side missions to go with the main missions.

See I might actually be able to play that game with only having to do those missions ONCE.

So what? He brutally rips on games he actually enjoys.

Also, why does this matter? Do you treat Yahtzee as some kind of prophet? And you somehow gain something from predicting his opinion? Really?

As for my two cents, the only thing that really annoys me is the removal of improvised weapons. I want to walk over to a fire hydrant and be able to rip it out of the ground using only the unimaginable force of how awesome I am. (and they fucked up the vehicle controls, but so does every fucking game that actually gets them right previously. I'm looking at you BF3)

I watch Yatzee's reviews because they are funny and a evil pleasure not because he did competent reviews of games.

Its sort of like watching a monkey flinging poo. It might make you laugh, but you wouldn't do it yourself and you don't make decisions based on where the poo lands.
I don't get it.
You base decisions on exactly opposite where the poo lands?
You don't need a monkey - you fling your own poo?
...

This is the opinion on Yahtzee I dislike. Yes, he's a cynic, but he's also a pro who actually knows what he's talking about. You can't always dismiss everything he says just because he's a cynic, most of his criticism is very valid, and he's just the only person brave enough to bring it up.

I remember an article a while back, a discussion between Yahtzee and a Gearbox guy. Yahtzee brought up the fact that Borderlands was a boring as shit game (for numerous reasons), and the developer just laughed it off with 'oh Yahtzee, you silly cynic'. Thing was, Yahtzee was right.
