i don't actually think Yahtzee likes video games, i admit yes, you probably likes the older games, i sympatise, i really do, but all you seem to do is insult games, before-hand i chose 10 reviews at random, they were prince of persia, sonic unleashed, mercinaries 2, fable 2, GHWT, SSBB, zack & wiki, crysis, mass effect and phantom hour-glass, and the best i got was "mediocre" and even in the other ones that i have seen in which he says right at the end that it isn't bad, he has named so many bad things, it seems as though he doesn't really mean it.

don't get me wrong, i like the zero-punctuation series, but he seems to name all of the bad things and 1 or 2 of the good things, why can't he say all of the good things and all of the bad things.

no, i am not a fanboy.

You make some good points, but I don't think Yahtzee will start being more forgiving in his reviews becase he likes be popular.

Yahtzee's appeal is his verbal decimation of any and all games. If he likes a game he reviews, he'll say so, but he's not going to ignore the flaws.

His insults are so spectacularly worded and viciously pointed that most people get a kick out of them. He has absolutely crucified some games that I adore completely, but that is his perogative. It's funny either way, and in the end, IT DOESN'T MATTER. Whatever we might think about the games or reviews, they are our opinions and what he says are his. He likes certain things about video games, and I remember him comparing Portal (in the review proper and again in an allusion in the CoD4 review) quite favorably to perfection, even near Jesus quality. So he doesn't hate ALL video games at least...

He expects too much from video games to really enjoy more than a select few. He is a fan of video games, just not as many as most of us.

Yay. Another utterly pointless thread on the done to death subject of ZP's review style. I thought it was that time of the month ZP threads would start appearing again.

edit: low & behold along with the thead comes the ZP faboi's, detractors & those who see ZP as having had a lifechanging effect in some way. This site follows a pattern I tell ya

I believe that Yahtzee realizes his views conflict with that of the norm, but that is what makes his show enjoyable. Zero Punctuation has led me to carefully analyse what I play and why I play it, and I have found that far too many games are "Gun Metal Shootout Slapfight Kill Arena XXXVII". I believe he holds his views because he is far more objective than the general population in his reception of games. In the end, though, his "hostility" has made him more popular (like Nimbus said) and thus encourages him to keep his views.

I can find gushingly great reviews for a game anywhere. Yahtzee is one of the few who are unabashedly critical, but more importantly it's honest criticism. He's not hating on games just because he's a dick, though that does help. He points out what I generally agree are real flaws, even if they're flaws I can live with. And when he doesn't play a game long enough to really judge it (The Witcher), he says that straight out. Most reviewers would rather be caught dead than admit they reviewed a game without playing it enough.

He sees a tiny flaw in a game and exaggerates it to the point of insanity, which is funny.

I love yahtzee because usually when I gripe about a game that people love I feel like I'm on crazy pills since 70% of the population seems to not give a crap about these things. So when I watch his review and his greviences mirror my own I grow a soft chub knowing that I'm not insane.

There seems to be a wave of people who seem to feel that the guy is a 2-bit comic, a repetitive cynic, and/or a hate mongering douche but that doesn't take away the fact that his criticisms are valid.

He is a critic. That's his job. To critic games. And to tell the truth, I kind of agree with most of the bad things he points out of the games he's reviewed. That doesn't mean that he or I haven't played the game. It would really suck to review games and hate them. There are other more interesting jobs out there to be unhappy about.

have you not seen what he tends to say? If he likes the fame he'll say it, then proceed to do what everyone loves it for him which is to humorously deconstruct a game, focusing on its flaws, while occasionally mentiong its strengths - he also tends to choose games that i suspect he either wants to love, or knows he's going to hate ^^

The reason we love him so much is because he does make a huge deal of little things. I dont care if he hates the games, his opinions dont affect my choice whether to play them or not. Its just fun to watch him tear games apart :)

Watch his reviews and ask yourself this. How many of his bad points do you disagree with?

For me, its a very small number. However, while most people let these flaws slide, Yahtzee harps on about them for comic effect.

I find it quiet irritating that people say that Yahtzee hates everything. Finding faults with a game is not the same as hating it. Even if I disagree with him sometimes, Yahtzee is still the most HONEST reviewer on the internet, he's one of the few guys you can trust to tell you the truth about a game, rather than be taken over by hype and give nothing but praise.
