He does like video-games. But he uses the 'tough love' approach so there is room for improvement. If you watch all his reviews you can see that sometimes he bashes a game but with all it's faults still likes to play it.

I'd say he just doesn't like crappy, badly thought through, or heavily flawed video games. Problem is ,that describes 90% of all video games available today.

Look, all I do is ***** about how shit the film, game and music industries are. Seriously, ALL I do. This isn't because I hate films, games or music. It's because I love them and they're all now seen as nothing more than quick ways to make cash out of idiots.

Yahtzee (from an gaming point) is NOT one of the stupid people who spends £40 on a game because either;
A-It's got realistic graphics and shiny colours
B-The advert on TV told him to, or
C-He feels if he doesn't join in on this week's Xbox Live gang bang, he will be uncool.

At least Yahtzee brings some passion to the table with his reviews\opinion. Something 99% of "critics" and most modern gamers DO NOT. Constructive Criticism is so rare these days. Mags and TV reviews consist of "Best game this year!", although the reviewer has said the same thing about 5 other games this month and is just awaiting his big fat pay cheque. Payola Scandal anyone?

Most gamers today are happy with some tits, a protagonist built like The Rock (because it's better than remembering you're scrawny and weak) and the thing we ALL tried to avoid at school......physics. Easily amused by generic crap but are quick to jump down the throat of anyone playing something that hasn't been dry humped into the category of "Cool Game" or "Hardcore Game".

So yeah, go Yahtzee....he sickens all of those who sicken me.
Agreed.

Incidentally, am I the only one getting sick of butt-hurt fanboys showing up making Yahtzee threads because he has taken a huge dump on their beloved game? There is far more to The Escapist than Yahtzee you know op.

I think it's just a misunderstanding that he doesn't like games, or even that his reviews are negative. He's harshly critical and points out all the flaws he can find, and people see all that negative, and the lack of a big shiney "I give this game a 42/50" and assume (yes assume) that he didn't like it.

Half of the things he rants about aren't even relevant. Take Left4Dead's intro for example, how many paragraphs did he spend bashing people who make zombie survival threads in forums?

When he actually does hate the game, HE TELLS YOU! o_O; Very obviously he tells you. And even bad games he admits to enjoying, because then he gets to complain about them. I'd love his job, complaining about things can be fun. x3

I thought these dudes were always around? They never got more or less annoying...ok, maybe more. But yeah, I find people who can't take 'insults' on the things they like to be simply pathetic. Nothing's perfect in the world, and everything has flaws. Only stupid and nearsighted people can't see flaws in the things they like. Sure, Yahtzee bashed a couple of my fav games somewhere, but I didn't throw a bloody tantrum and went to spam some internet forum. I laughed, because what he was saying was true.

You know that little kitty poster in your school's counselor office that says "The day I first grew up was the day I learned to laugh at myself" or such? :D Stare at it for a couple more minutes next time you're there.

He certainly spends a lot of time doing something he doesn't like then. Yikes. I suddenly feel sorry for the guy.

Yahtzee needs to be sarcastic, condescending and stuck-up in order to maintain his level of "Funny". He is selling a product, and that product is himself and his series of videos. If he was like any other reviewer, no-one would watch. He isn't here to provide you with a very serious and downtoned review, he is here to provide you with entertainment while obviously nit-picking the game he is reviewing. I've found several videos in which he likes the game, though.

EDIT:

People would do far better to treat ZP as a comedy series rather than a review series.
