If Yahtzee says a game is good, I will almost always get it on the strength of his recommendation, (Psychonauts, Portal, Painkiller- interesting that they all start with P)- if however, he doesn't like a game, it doesn't mean I necessarily agree with him. For example, I love the Witcher, and I love CD Projekt's dedication to their fanbase. They are still a small enough company that they personally answer many questions that are directed to them in the forums, and they went through the trouble to release a whole new edition of the Witcher. It was the only time I found myself vehemently disagreeing with Yahtzee. Oh wait, there was another time, but now I really don't remember.

The only time I've thoroughly disagreed with him is with Condemned 2; no one in that game says 'ancient mystical cult'.
They do if you chose the right responses for forensics. Comes up around the museum level, at the torture exhibit.

But yeah, Halo 3. You can't play the final game in a series and use it to attack an entire series. A game series is NOT as good at its weakest game.
But the game itself is. I don't remember him dismissing the Halo series, just Halo 3. Now he was very dismissive of the Metal Gear Solid series overall, as well as God of War. But did he ever say Halo without 3 after it, except when he said he hadn't played the other two?

No seriously, did he? I can't be arsed to remember.

He's honest unlike other jounarlists who are sellouts to marketing, hype, and fanboys who give mediocre games high scores like Halo, World of WarCraft, Killzone 2, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Whats wrong with World of Warcraft?

Oh wait, yeah, that.
Ah I wouldn't know, I'm too good ;D

of course I don't agree with all of Yahtzee's opinions! I watch it for the lulz, not because I trust his opinion

He doesn't just make shit up =P Most of what he says is based in truth, even if it's exaggerated.
With that being said, don't take everything he says seriously. He does jest a little too much for the intellectually disabled to comprehend.

Furthermore, if I was to release a five-minute game and give it multiplayer, it would still be a five-minute game.
By this logic, are exclusively multiplayer games zero minutes long?

I love his movies. They are really funny and thats all I really take them for. I've never bought a game just because he said it was bad. He nitpicks then overexagerates the little things which is why its so funny.

Yahtzee is simply hilarious for overblowing different games' problems and criticizing them all to hell. Which, admittedly, is fun.
Yeah this. - He criticises the bad things about a game and doesnt just make it "all pretty" and stuff.

I disaprove of how he bashes Halo 3 without giving any credible reason, the story seemed basic to him as he did not play the backstory, the gameplay was average only because he didn't realise that the first Halo revolutionised the formula, and because he only played one part of it he has no right to complain about how the game had 'so little'

That said I find the man to be very funny and I respect him.
If you played a game, and then didn't like it, would you go "oh, but there are many more games before it, I should play them all and then replay this game I hate and see if its better"

I think not.
Besides, I do happen to agree with him, Halo 3 IS nothing special. Yes its better than 1 and 2, but those were on a different platform... really, cause Xbox is a world below Xbox360, be honest now, and really, if you dislike a game, your not gonna play all the other ones like it in order to try and change your mind. Noone would....

Maybe chuck norris....

Yes what you say is true, if you hated something you wouldn't go back to the prior ones and see what you missed. HOWEVER you also have to accept that you therefore cannot make any comment on how it was popular nor can you say the overarching storyline is poor in quality as you only know what happened at the very end (Halo 3's plot was made for the people who already knew the history, by this point it wasn't trying to be accessible to new players). That's why it annoys me when he made jokes about Microsoft bribing people (sort of) and accusations that Halo fans are stupid. I was especially annoyed when Yahtzee in his Halo Wars review said what was 'standard Halo fare' and all I could say was:
"This accusation is based on WHAT exactly? Having only played the final concluding act of a game story how can you possibly assume that the story is shit?'
It's being biased and having a one dimensional view that isn't justified.

But as I said I find myself agreeing with him on most things, just not his views on Halo.

All hes saying is that the way gaming is going at the moment, its all about instant gratification - kill this, move on, kill next person, move on.

Personally, one of my favourite games is Final Fantasy X. For its time, graphics were great, story was well detailed, and the difficulty curve was near perfect, although perhaps a bit top heavy with later levels being slightly difficult. Basically, it was a great game.

Halo, not saying that Halo is bad, is different. Its a case of "Aliens take over worlds, kill them" as compared to "Monster killing from the sea, hero from another time comes through and teams up, but he'll disappear at battles end, and the monster is his dad, and.... " etc.

I can see what both you and him are saying, I just think he is alot more accurate. IMO, Xbox360 owners are very.... twitchy. Main one I know is my stepbrother, who I bought Psychonauts for, back when he had an Xbox, and he basically gave up when it took over 1/2 hour to kill something.

I personally think games are more "a movie that is interactive" than "I want to kill things and have it look good"

Thats just me though. Your opinions are your own.

In that very same sentence he made that joke he also agreed your arguement is a possibility, if you're talking about the dopamine sentence atleast. "part of the problem may be that I've never actually played a halo game until this one, maybe you need all the backstory to get the expierience all the other reviewers were apparently having, or maybe microsoft was paying someone to stand behind them jamming needles full of dopamine into their spinal columns every half hour" exact quote.

I am going to have to say the Halo Wars Review was one of his funniest reviews and alot of what he said was true but really the "Select one prick..." joke made me fall out of my chair laughing?

Even with all the flaws he mentioned in Too Human, I still got enjoyment out of mercilessly beating the crap out of wave after wave of enemies. It's great when you can recognize how badly designed a game is and yet still get some enjoyment out of it.

Psychonauts review lead me to buy the game earlier this year.. or late 08, and I still think it is one of the best games Ive played. The issues he raised in the review are true, particularly the learning curve, which is horrible, but oh well. Thats what happens sometimes, particularly in developers first games. mistakes are made, improvements in the next game.

I just find it stupid when some people expect gaming perfection in games instantly, and want to do nothing but shoot, and are happy with that. Ie, I don't really see the difference between shooting someone in the head, and shooting someone in the foot, yet people seem to love trying to shoot every body part in order to see every reaction - why not get a game where different things happen, expand a little.

I find he does seem to polarise games as either hevanly goodness or the foul effuluance of satan's hounds. I really dissaprove of how he's rated a couple of games (Halo 3 and EVE included) and didn't take multiplayer into account. I will admit on its own Halo 3's single player storyline is a bit short etc. But what keeps people playing it is the matchmaking, custom games and forge. All of which he completly neglected to mention.

I'm kind of split between two arguments on the idea of reviews. I read a lot of film reviews, and used to read a lot of gaming reviews. Reviews are meant to state how a film or game is in comparison to the market, and a lot of the time, the reviews are rather true. However, I have found a lot of reviews written have a LOT of personal opinion scattered all across, distorting the overall view of the film/game.

Yahtzee places a comical slant on his reviews, most definately infotainment (informing the audience through entertaining via comedy). However, his personal opinion can be seen in a lot of his reviews i.e. his hatred of JRPG's. I watch his videos and they entertain me, but also inform me of the dangers of some of the worse ones. I don't take the reviews as final, though, we're all entitled to our own opinions.

I got to disagree because I played the previous Halo games and although 1 was good 2&3 were serious let downs because the story was severly shortened (I don't have XBL), the weapons got worse, and as a side effect of the game series itself it made the player characters stop being able to carry all of the weapons in the game and reduced it down to sniper rifle and whatever.
