This is a very simple thread designed to gauge the musical tastes of the Escapist community. Sure, it's been done plenty of times before, but this time I'd like to hear what your favourite genre of music at this present time is, and exactly why it is so. I understand that you'll probably like a lot of different genres - hell, I know I do - but let's just focus on your current love.

For example, my favourite style of music at the moment is Indie Rock/Post Hardcore - a mouthful, I know, but I'm talking about bands like At the Drive-In, the Blood Brothers, and Brainiac. I'm digging it at the moment because the genre has a lot of energy and uses it to create original, spontaneous and ever changing songs - something a lot of modern heavier music lacks severely.

Now it's your turn, go for it.

Gangster Rap. Because I am a hard core gangster and part time hustler. O yes, be afraid.

At the moment it's pretty much the same it's been for the last 10 years. Indie-singer-songwriter-folk or whatever you want to call it. I noticed my musical tastes have mellowed out, and I'm more interested in the "story" than the music.

I've also recently "discovered" chillout-triphop, I have no idea why but I like it.

I'm going by the tags Last.FM gives me, as I have very little idea about genres in general.

Hooverphonic, Portishead, Kate Havnevik, I monster. Just some things that come to mind.

Indie.

Wide genre, but whatever. Bright Eyes, Azure Ray, Wolf Parade- all that whiny melodic shit.
I also listen to a lot of...'generic rock', i.e. The Used, MSI, Muse, Placebo, The Smiths, the sort of bands that every one knows and was into at some stage.
I have my 'punk' and 'metal' love-ins too. I'm a bit all over the place, music wise

My reasoning? ...because I like it?

I'm afraid i can't really answer your question fully since i seem to have a softspot for a lot of Genre's of music

However i will explain Why i seem to like them.

I like Metal and most of it's variants because most of it just has that Intense energy around it. Like a powerful surge behind it

I like Blues-Rock cause a lot of the music in that has powerful meaning behind it.

To be honest i might as well I like music as a whole because it all depends on what the song means to me. Songs i'll listen to when i might be angry won't do me any pleasure if i'm say not so angry. It's Diverse, a freedom. hence why i don't like people who put down others because the like such and such and not Thingymajig.

Try looking up a band called Fbcfabric and Reindeer, they're ridiculously obscure but they do amazing ambient hip-hop.

Don't get me wrong, I listen to quite a lot of music as well, pretty much everything from jazz to mathcore, I'm just focusing on my pet love at the present moment in time.

Rock, punk and alternative. I can listen to anything if I think it's deserves my attention, but those are my preferences. Actually, I hate rap of most kinds with a few exceptions.

Rock, blues, country, some power pop, pomp rock, a very very small selection of modern pop, classic rock, psychedelic, comedy songs, rock and roll, white boy blues.

I'm just gonna go ahead and say anything except rap, hip hop, R&B, Drum and Bass actually
