I have a wide interest span. I'm mostly into the alt/indie bands like TV On The Radio, behind that is classic rock and ummm, I don't know what to classify t as but Tool and Shinedown.

Don't get me wrong, I listen to quite a lot of music as well, pretty much everything from jazz to mathcore, I'm just focusing on my pet love at the present moment in time.
Ah right cool.
Mathcore?
Thats a new one to me

The Dillinger Escape Plan and Converge are both excellent bands to look at in the genre if you're interested.

Thrash Metal is my favourite kind of music genre right now. I can't really explain why but probably because most other genres are too nice and don't encourage you to beat the living hell out of people.

I listen to a lot of Death metal too btw.

Progressive Rock, OR ... how do I describe it? Alternative from the 90s to now? I'm an Alt-Metal fan. I like Incubus and Alien Ant Farm. I like Weezer, and Zebrahead, and Lit. Closest defining genre I can come up with is alternative metal. I like it because most alt-metal songs are powerful, with really nice melodies, and a singer that I can at least TOLERATE (or absolutely adore with all my heart, like in Incubus' case). Unlike Death Metal Steve above me. Haha.

Electronica and Psy. My favourite band and what I'm currently listening to is Infected Mushroom. I also enjoy most other genres such as rock, metal, SOME rap and so forth.

I see you have Trivium's T and tomoe as your avatar. /thumbs up

I pretty much like all metal genres besides the core [metalcore(minus Trivium), deathcore, not grindcore] sub-genres. I also like opera, classical and classic rock. I also dig The Offspring.

Been listening to a lot of Ska and old punk, now that's good music with strong rhythm's and powerful lyrics. Also Rockabilly for some reason, its just such an awesome style of music that seems to have faded away nowadays.

Metal. Old school metal.

Because anything that's being made nowadays simply doesn't appeal. However, yes, I do play it too, because I have it hard for virtuosism (growing up to classical composers), and it's the closest thing you get nowadays.

Progressive Rock/Metal. Favorite bands include Dream Theater, Porcupine Tree and Opeth.

EDIT: The genre doesn't matter that much to me, the music's just gotta be good.

I listen to pretty much every style except Pop & Country, but my favourite at the moment would be Math-Metal (Such as Meshuggah) & Math-Jazz (like Hiromi Uehara)

Progressive metal, power metal, and whatever those bands where one guy does metal growls [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHyEz3vcdQk&feature=related] and a woman sings beautiful soprano vocals is [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SiBcMCaHL0]

I just bought a new album, and was highly impressed by this song [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwiN1J8OTDo]

Basically I like music that has more to it than just the generic verse chorus verse chorus crap. I like progression, awesome musicianship, classical influences, opera vocals, interesting lyrics, emotion, beauty, complexity, and that 'it' factor I can't explain. The 'it' factor being something like, "does this song make me want to headbang, or even feel anything at all? If not, I pass". Like even though Nightwish would be considered similaresque to some bands I like, I just can't listen to them (I tried). Whereas the bands I like I can listen to their whole discographies the whole way through, without skipping any tracks, and enjoy the fuck out of it. I just LOVE these bands soooo much, words cannot explain it. I'm also the only one I know who listens to this kind of music anywhere near where I live, and people's preconceptions of what 'metal' is, annoys the shit out of me.

The metal I listen to is some of the most beautiful and complex music, but I'd have an easier time convincing someone I am a tree than of that fact (without forcing them to listen). Some how people are of the impression that Metallica is the only metal band in existence or something ( and thank the Gods they're not)

Alternative rock
Funk
Techno
Metal
Industrial
Whatever the hell Electric Six qualifies as.
The Ace Combat soundtracks.

That's just the tip of the iceberg.

As for the "Why": Because I like to think that my musical tastes are as diverse, varied, and batshit bonkers as my personality.

Really though, it just sounds good, fun, and crazy. What more do you want from your music?
