If thats not allowed for some idioitic reason I'd go for modern day tank, i'm pretty sure i'd be unstoppable. Though that leaves some creative room for item two, I think i'd like something to listen to whilst I crush my foes so I choose my ipod.

The people that keep saying "modern day tank" and not using the "specify" rule, that and it takes four people to operate the modern tank, 1 to reload, 1 to gun, 1 to drive, and 1 to navigate/lead the tank.

When you say surrounded, I'm imagining them all like within a few metres, and no weapon could save me from an army that close. However, if they are say 60 feet away then a minigun so that I could shoot many down and the others would be too scared of my advanced weaponry and run away. I don't know what else I'd need, maybe a flame weapon which is also add fear.

The funny thing is the Spartans basically got killed off because they didn't modernize. They thought "look at that panzy with the ability to kill lots of my men from kilometers away by hurling stones. Fight me like a real man!"

So in all truth these spartans would probably laugh at you as you slaughtered them thinking "If i get closer i can murder the shit out of this little wus with his spinning death machine."
