Read Genshiken. All 9 volumes have been released by Del Rey. In my opinion it is the absolute greatest slice of life manga of all time (and also the greatest manga of all time). Its depiction of a college anime/manga club manages to be both heart wrenching and hilarious all at once.

More info: http://myanimelist.net/manga/348/Genshiken

And yes, I would love to hear your opinion on it.

Which one?

I'm not sure if I would recommend it, without knowing more about what kind of manga the OP reads, or how well-stocked his local bookshop is. But, well, if I were to approve of any title, it might just be that one.
Like I said, don't pay any attention to anything except for if you think it's great.

Hmm... I see Ghost in the Shell has been mentioned, so I will recommend another of Shirow Masamune's works, Appleseed.

Some of the best ones have already been said, but one that hasn't been mentioned is Chrono Crusade. English translation has been made by ADV Manga and the series is a nice 8 book long story. Definately my favourite series out of the ones I've actually bought.

Bloody well, it wont be much of a help since everyone else has recommended you something. But here goes anyway:

Hunter X Hunter

Premise: Boy wants to follow father's footsteps and become a hunter... 'Hunter' spreading beyond shooting harmless mammals. Think bounty hunter, or treasure hunter.

The story starts out interesting, and becomes even more so every time a group of characters or scenario is introduced. It goes from sport to hard murder and assassinations, to tournaments. An entire arc is about video games killing people.

Best of all, it is relatively easy to find.

Rave Master.

I just started reading it and it's bloody awesome.
I would say this but he did.
Fairy Tail, then?
Done by the same guy. Just don't read it with other people around, pretty much every female is 19 with DD cups and are nearly always naked.
Well, not that much, but there's a lot of fanservice, basically.
Already been recommended, but feel free to edit your post.

Parasyte. Seriously, it is good, at least if you like those kind of things.

Ranma 1/2 is an interesting series to read. A bit on the random side but still good in its own way.

Full Metal Alchemist, Hellsing, or Hikaru no Go are the only things I can reccomend at the moment. I hope this is helpful.

Can't really think of any other Manga I read, so take this as a recommendation to get it more since two people say to!

Shaman King. Bro, you need to get in on that. It's, like, the single most fun, enjoyable shonen manga I've ever read. Makes Naruto look like stupidsauce, and I'm one of those people who liked Naruto.
