Wow, really not enough people recommending One Piece here. Oh, he read it already. Then I guess for me it would be Monster.

Wow, really not enough people recommending One Piece here, the pinnacle of manga entertainment. Some idiot even recommended Rave Master, which is a carbon-copy clone of everything One Piece stands for. It's limitlessly entertaining, incredibly original, well drawn with a unique art style and a huge, endless supply of likable characters. As far as fighting scenes are concerned, none even come close to beating One Piece.
I think the reason people don't recommend One Piece is that my original post said I've read it. :)

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It's probably the best action horror manga I've ever read. Unfortunately arc 3 is the only one available in the US. I say that's unfortunate because the previous 2 arcs were really, really good and a little less fantastical. It's much more grounded at first, despite featuring all sorts of gore and macabre stuff.

I'm not sure if I would recommend it, without knowing more about what kind of manga the OP reads, or how well-stocked his local bookshop is. But, well, if I were to approve of any title, it might just be that one.
Like I said, don't pay any attention to anything except for if you think it's great.
Well, then, I can say that I would not immediately recommend Blood Alone to everybody. But, as a point of fact, I have just spent thirty quid on the first six volumes of it, because it only just occurred to me to look for an official localisation, my only prior exposure to it being entirely illegitimate. That is, as a direct result of this thread, I have spent thirty pounds on a series I have already read, as soon as I was made aware of its availability, at a time when I really shouldn't be making unnecessary expenditures like this.

So, y'know, there's that. I don't know if you can call it advice; I just think it's something you might like to be aware of.

I would have to say, XXXHOLIC (good luck finding it) it's the only thing I've read that has death, horror, romance, and comedy so tightly entwined and well presented.

I'd reccomend I"s if you're into dramas. It's an actually good teen drama. Yes, a good. Teen. Drama. Warning: It has semi-exlicit nudity. The protaganist is a male teen, so his mind occupies the gutter as expected. Still, it's a compelling story and has some brilliant character developement.

If you can get past the copious amount of gore and fanservice, then it is awesome.
Man, I don't get you. Acting as though those things are problems. Sooner or later somebody is going to tell me that the manga of Erika Sakurazawa is really good if you ignore the excellent writing. Or that One Piece is great if you can get past the wonderful humour. :)

I don't personally find them issues, just a lot of people do. I was unsure which category you slotted into. Now that I know you don't mind these things, allow me to have a look through some of my favourites online and actual books to find more manga that you may like.

Some of these may have been said already and I'm too lazy to double-check, so consider ones that have been said a reinforcement of the recommendation.

Berserk
Monster
Elfen Lied (although the second half goes downhill)
Battle Royale
Akira
Black Cat
FLCL (better in anime form, but a good manga nonetheless)
And some more I will edit in.

Same as what Fargodog said- some people find fanservice annoying. Probably because it's often over-the-top and can interrupt the mood of the scene if used badly. I assure that this isn't the case in I"s though.
