Hellsing if you haven't read it yet
Seconded! Or third or fourthded by now
I might as well tell you that I've read it to the end and consider it to be a masterpiece of violence that isn't ashamed of what it is.

You should definitely check out "Eden: It's An Endless World", it's brilliant! The art is incredibly detailed, all the characters are well developed and the plot is great. Definitely one of my favorite manga ever.
Tell me what you think of it once you've checked it out pl0x.
Okay, if it doesn't end up being the manga I buy I'll get it at the library and I'll be sure to tell you what I think.

Battle Royale......I promise there will be NO traumatizing scenes involving necrophilia or extremely gory death scenes. No, absolutely none of that..*shifty eyes*

Also a good choice, I would say Elfen Lied...but the manga sucked balls, so stick to the anime.

Knowing that can I make a second suggestion?

Sure, go ahead. Technically, you haven't made your first one yet since recommendations of stuff somebody else has recommended doesn't count. So it's all according to the rules.

Ok then, I'll go for Zombie Loan. I haven't read too much of it, but so far it's riveting, and I send this with my highest recommendations.

Battle Angel Alita. The sequel, Last Order, is in the process of being printed in volumes right now and I love them both. I'd recommend more but you have rules.

Well Monster and 20th Century boys have already been mentioned. So here's one of my favorites that is not very well known but I've seen at bookstores.

Kurasagi Corpse Delivery Service - a group of students graduate from a Bhuddist college and realize that their education didn't actually improve their chances for employment. So they instead turn to their special abilities, one can dowse for corpses, one can speak to the dead, one is an awesome computer whiz, one can do embalming and one can...channel an alien through a hand puppet.

Very morbid, very funny, sometimes sad, very episodic as they essentially travel around helping the dead achieve their final wishes.

I'd recommend Deadman Wonderland. It's has such an interesting but also gory story; I can't put my finger on what I like so much about this manga, nut fact is I keep coming back to it.

Anyway here's the summary of it (straight from Mangafox):

Ganta Igarashi has been convicted of a crime that he hasn't committed, and sent to a new, privately owned and operated prison, where the inmates are the main attraction in a modern day twist to the gladiatorial coliseums of ancient times. Throw in a healthy dose of weird little girl, some new-found super powers, and a little conspiracy theory, and you have Deadman Wonderland.

You could try Code Geass if you liked Death Note, but I personally think Geass was shit because I saw Death Note first and noticed all the annoying similarities and all the ways Geass tries to distract you with giant robot fighting and the occasional tease of tits.

What I WILL recommend is Soul Eater. Probably my most favored manga of all time. But if you have interest in the anime version... ignore it. It gets shitty when the anime comes closer to the end and if you watch the dub (who does) the voices are terrible. End of story.

I bought and read the latest book, no. 11, last Friday. Loved it. It's good to see there's more fans of this manga around.

Ok, I looked through and can absolutely not believe that no one suggested One Piece, so I will.

If you think Naruto has sold well with its 5 million sales or so in 2010, then your mind will be blown away with the fact that One Piece has sold over 20 MILLION copies in 2010, making it the best selling book of any genre in Japan (and probably other regions). So yeah, that's a message don't you think?
