.... Am I the only one who enjoys the irony in this thread?

It's like saying "You know what I hate? People who don't like stuff!"

Why don't you start a thread that deals with rainbows and cupcakes if it's depressing you too much?
Ok your post made me think of this, enjoy a flashback to my youth and a quick look into my twisted mind.

I never shot the dog only the ducks, god I loved that game.

Well OP I fear I do not hate people, I have just had several events in life force me to harden up or rack up. That plus my lack of patience, if you are not useful get out of my way, I suppose I could come off as a misanthrope if you just glanced at me.

Deep breath and don't try to change people it will only leave you jaded as you will never succeed on a grand scale, work on one person that wants help.

While we are complaining about people?.

I cannot stand overly happy people! I mean what is wrong with you? There is happy and then there is what are you on happy people?

To be honest, I think that the assumption that nearly everyone on here are introverts isn't correct. More often than not, I think that the people of the Escapist paint themselves as a happy bunch.
You can be introverted and happy, unless you meant those two things as completely separate. Still, introverts tend to dominate forums in general.

On-topic: I simply laugh at many people's melodrama here. It's quite amusing.

I'm one joyous person. I've always noticed on here that the older people (age 21+) are a lot happier than the kiddos.

Also, it always seems that the Americans are a generally happier bunch than the English.
Well, of course. It's always raining over there! And not nice spring rain, either; cloudy, cold rain that makes everything moist and dirty the next day.

If you are one of those bouncy overly happy people... o_O

I mean these are the people that are happy at funeral type happy....

If you are that sort of person then you are invited to my funeral if only to annoy the other 3 people who come.

I would invite you to join me for my brain surgery (should the meds fail this is my all or nothing card, so no sympathy stuff yet I am still not this far gone) but I already promised that to a girl.

Also your post made my laugh so you are friended.

Okay, it's the internet. People whine and complain because of the anonymity it brings. Even when there is no anonymity (I'm looking at YOU, Facebook) people still whine and complain. I complain sometimes. It doesn't make me a misanthrope or a bad person.

I'm misanthropic?

I mean sure I think humanity can be a huge bastard, but it can also be a wondrous thing full of love and, good? I don't know how to say it, half asleep.

Anyway, yes there are some lonely bastards who hate everyone because their girlfriend wouldn't love them or something but there ARE normal, happy (Or content) humans in the community.

What a misanthropic thread about hating misanthropes. Your not making it easy! I think the majority of age groups on The Escapist guarantee some feelings of angst. Happy people aren't going to populate advice forums

You do realize that society is a lot LESS depressing than it was at any year during the past pretty much.

We all see that various decades in the past where particularly nice to live in, but fact of the matter is, it probably had a lot less happy people in the world, then it does now.

That's because todays media often tell you how shit everything is, so misanthropy will creep in. Fact of the matter is, the present is the pinnacle of human achievement. We are much more developed, and learned then we where yesterday. Misanthropy is generally a misplaced idea, that has little basis for definition, if only if a few individuals.

I have faith in the human race. We are complete assholes, but what species isn't? We will get better, until we hit some sort of quality of life singularity.

Misanthropy is an immature stance. Perhaps a stance of distrust towards people until they have proven themselves trustworthy can be justified, but an outright and intense hatred of all people simply for existing is damaging.
agreed, you don't need to trust everyone with open arms, but having a binding hatred and distaste for everyone else is destructive and awful.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: this community is not full of misanthropes. It's full of a bunch of angsty high school and college students who became inspired by Yahtzee and THINK they are misanthropes, but who are actually a bunch of lonely guys who need a chill pill, a hug, and a good cry.

On that note, stretch kitteh. Feel the love.

Cute snip
This is very true. It's cool and edgy to be cynical now, although I personally think people like that are pricks. The ones I dislike are "a few people have upset me, so all people are c*nts" and "I had 2 bad relationships, therefore all men/women are evil!"

I try stay positive, even when I'm going through a load of crap. What's the point moaning about it? It'll just depress you more.
Then again, you can't help feeling depressed and pissed off because all the news does is report miserable, horrible stories :/

EDIT: That cat looks a lot like mine. Mine is fat though which confuses me because we only feed him 3 times a day and try make him get a lot of exercise ;_;

Okay, seriously, when did we as a community collectively become so emo?
I swear we've had more topics in the last month about teenagers, and especially teenage relationships, pretty much existing so that people can go on and feel smug and superior while belittling them.
This is bullshit.

There is a subtle difference between a stupid idea (a girl getting pregnant at 14 on purpose / as a result of alcohol) and unfortunate circumstances (a girl getting pregnant at 14 because her boyfriend was a prick who didn't use contraception). It really angers me when people fail and at times even refuse to make this distinction.

There was one particular thread on "young love" that especially annoyed me (can't remember the name though), because half of it was filled with people moaning about unrequited crushes and much of the other half with people saying that it was pointless because it never worked out and wishing people would stop. By far the worst one though is that people assume it only happens to stupid people who can't control their feelings. (I'm paraphrasing but sense this is not an uncommon viewpoint)

I've spent this weekend trying to comfort a female friend of mine who split up from her boyfriend of two years or so. Now, maybe it's because she hasn't gone through it before, and maybe it's because her body isn't able to deal with all the hormones and issues of a break-up, but that doesn't make it any less real and it certainly doesn't mean she can just stop feeling it. People at a young age need to experience things like this, and as they do so they'll need support, which is why it needs offering.
More to the point, this girl is 17 next month and got A*s in most of her GCSEs. She is not stupid and to assume that youngsters in love are is childish. She is just dealing with something unknown that carries with it, as Cracked.com are frequent to relate, withdrawal symptoms similar to those of cocaine.

TL; dr: PLEASE can we just cheer the fuck up as a community? I know we tend to attract the nerdy types with all the nerd stereotypes attached but it's been really bad recently.

Oh, and for discussion value, um... Misanthropy, good or bad?
A slight issue about semantics. Misanthropy would be the hatred of mankind in general. I believe what you are referring to is cynicism i.e. seeing the worst in any situation. Which in this case would be people assuming that the depression of the young lady in question is her fault for believing in a relationship.

EDIT: I can see the point in being a misanthrope, but not a cynic.

OT: I, myself, hate cynics. As Nietzsche puts it, the cynicism of the 'wise' and the mindlessness of the plebeians is a potent combination holding mankind back.

I myself try to avoid misanthropy but sometimes it's hard. More often than not am down right pessimistic.
Sometimes I feel like I do about the world because of experience and knowing that history will repeat itself. I and may others try to look on the bright side but the world at large is not helping.
