Though I'm not a Jehovah Witness I go to their churches a believe what they believe. I believe in what I learn and have never been happier with my region, but people really don't like Jehovah witnesses. Their the nicest people I know and follow the bible the closest then any other form of Christianity, but they cause a lot of flak if you mention their name. I want to stick up more for what I believe but I don't want to alienate people.

I'm a transvestite. I'm an atheist. I haven't told my parents about this. I don't think I ever will. So what's your closet that you haven't come out of yet? I'm not just talking LBGT stuff, I'm talking any kind of lifestyle choice that your parents (or other people close to you) wouldn't approve of or that for other reasons you're keeping secret.

Is being a Atheist a bad thing? I heard all the time that most American's are very religious people, but here in the UK, you are pretty much deemed a social outcast for not being one. Which is quite strange considering how religious focused our country was in the past.

First of all, thanks for complimenting my English. Secondly, I'm Swedish And here, being an atheist is pretty much par for the course. But my parents thinks that I'll go to Hell forever for not believing in God. Well, at least my mom and brother would think so if I told them.

My family just accepted my atheism and then decided what to have for dinner. If there had been any difficulty, I probably would have just said "if I want to go to hell, that's my own business." Not that it would necessarily help the situation, I just wouldn't be able to resist.

OT: My family do not know that I lost my virginity some time ago (outdoors, too) or that I was stabbed in August. Nor are they aware of my (finished) battle with chronic depression. Come to think about it, I don't tell my family much. I love them, but I've accepted that my parents and siblings are very, very different from me, despite the fact that I share a strange amount of personality traits with my dad. They wouldn't understand the things I've done and have happened to me over the years, just like they rarely understand my sense of humor. I'm fine with that.

Not in general, but just imagine being raised Westburo Baptist and deciding you were atheist. Some families are just really hardcore about their religion.

Honestly, my mom probably wouldn't care all that much. Heck, she might even try watching it. I got her watching Doctor Who. It's my dad and brothers who I worry about, seeing as they fling me crap about lots of small things, like watching doctor who. Also, if one my brothers found out, everyone we know would know in less than a day, seeing as they're big chatterboxes on Facebook

Yes, brothers are rather bothersome aren't they? Mine would probably try to hold this over my head and he's enough of an obnoxious, beleaguering little shit as it is, so I can only imagine how long it would take for him to shut up about this.

It just seems weird to me. lso I dont know much aout denomnations but are methodists the peope who belive they tlk in tounges or something ? I kno there are some groups who do that, but cant remember who.

I've more or less had this fixation since I was a child--being unusually interested in the parts of cartoons where somebody's tied up and all that--and I think I've figured out it's more or less about control. When you're helpless like that, somebody else is completely in control and you are completely out of control. Meaning you are free from making decisions and conscious choices, and they are free to make any decisions they like regardless of the consequences. So it's a way of thinking, really. I can definitely see why you wouldn't get it though, lol.

As far as your question about Methodists, I don't believe I've known any others in my denomination who believe they've spoken in tongues. I know some evangelicals and Baptists are like that, but I like to consider the Methodists I run with to be the Canadians of the protestant Christians. We don't like to get involved with controversies, we don't like to be terribly open with hateful belligerence, and we don't really take any rash actions to make anybody else upset with us. We just say hello and smile and go about our business. Of course I understand there are some Methodists who have done such things, but again this is just the crowd I run with. Churches function on a very local basis, so the values my local churches hold may be radically different from others in different places.

hmm...not to sure about that. I think Eastern Orthodox Christians would be the nearest thing to original Christianity.

Thats about it. I'm not particularly ashamed about it but I find it hard to explain to people that I don't really like to have sex myself but can find ANYONE sexually attractive. AM I MAKING SENSE?

I am an equal opportunity lover except I myself do not like the idea of having sex. Watching yes...doing no...So that's what I hide from people so I don't have to go into a huge explanation as I am doing at the moment.

I used to be ashamed of liking MLP, always hiding it whenever someone would walk in or something lol. But then i decided to just say "fuck it" and told my whole family that i watch the show, as to avoid any of those awkward "why are you watching that?" moments.

Possibly, but in my area they do the best, and its never made more sense, I can actually read the bible know and understand it. I just like the way they do things, its a form of Christianity where the church is run by its goers not by a paid priest, it seems like the way things should be.

I spent six months quietly struggling with depression and didn't tell anyone but my single closest friend, who happened to be the cause of it all. Long story and I'm not going to get into it. I think my parents may have noticed something was wrong but chalked it up to stress from school or whatnot, since they never said anything.
