If you think that rap music today sucks than you just need to look harder. If you're referring to mainstream on the radio rap, then yes it is worse than ever. But there are ALWAYS great MC's and producers out there making great music. For me, my new favorite genre of rap are glitch and hyphy.

I like rap there are some rappers that you know are still good even if most rap sucks but the best rappers to me are Biggie and tupac and there dead so rap is falling of the edge.

Much the same, although for a reason. Old rap (early 90's and earlier) is a legitimate expression of a peoples frustration and disenfranchisement, in much the same way as blues is. Rap in those days was a potent act of rebellion, Fuck Tha Police is almost an act of social uprising.

Nowadays? A bunch of arrogant rich people rhyming badly about how big their cocks are. Fuck that.
I was going to post something similar but have been beaten to the punch. Not my cup of tea in terms of music choice then, these days I find it to be loathesome shit.

I'm sure there is good rap out there, but I don't want to have to sift through all the crap to find something worthwhile in a genre that I'm not really particularly fond of anyways.

Well its pretty much accepted that all mainstream music is absolute garbage and rap is no exception. In every genre it seems the best stuff remains hidden while the horseshit rises to the top. So given my limited knowledge of the underground rap scene I presume that applies to rap as well. Although taking rap and turning it completely upside down like MC Lars does is wonderful. Genuinely love what this guy is doing.

Few good rappers left here and there. Kid Cudi, Atmosphere, Eyedea, Dre, and Eminem are still worth while to listen to.

There's some good stuff out there, you just have to look for it. De La Soul, Aesop Rock, and Del tha Funkee Homosapien (ignore the name, this dude's awesome) immediately spring to mind.

Would that not conflict with the general posting rules, I'd post a "kill it with fire" picture here, which would some up my feelings towards that kind of "music" and it's fans.

Mainstream rap is and always has been really bad (for the most part), but their are still quite a few modern underground/hardcore hiphop artists whom are quite respected in the "serious" music community and that I enjoy quite a bit.

If you say "All rap is shit!" you are just being an ignorant pillock.
This. Its like anime or youtube, you have to dig through all the shit to get to the gold nuggets.

I like progressive rap/hiphop that fuse with electro. A good example is Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. Kubus and BangBang is also great.

And, of course: triphop.

Yeah, but unlike good rap, good anime doesn't hide from sun and hide behind the dumb kids in front.

I don't really listen to rap much, but I do have a guilty pleasure in listening to Jay-Z. I have no idea why, but I really like his music. Problem?

As far of the rest of it goes, I just find it boring.

It died with the sugarhill gang.

But was revived with Jon Lajoie. :p

But seriously. Underground rap is completely superior to mainstream hip hop & rap. Rappers like Canibus and shit like that are epic. Canibus especially, as he doesn't sing about "smackin' dat" and shit like that. Raps about stuff like Buckminster Fuller and egyptian gold molded in assyria with processed berillium by the quintillion. He's insane.

But nothing can top rap from the 80's. MC Hammer, Sugarhill Gang, all those guys. Completely epic. :p
