(Amazingly, I haven't seen any threads about it)

Pretty simple. In the event of a zombie outbreak, what would your destination be?

Mine would be Alaska. Its cold, isolated, and I don't think the zombie virus could survive long there. Maybe I'm wrong.
Nah it would. Unless its 28 days later type of zombies, the carriers could get ya with little concern.

As for me, I would choose either I desolate island with enough natural resources (and maybe an abandoned hotel) but small enough that any zombies could be gotten rid of upon my arrival.

Somes Island. About a K off shore/away from me in the middle of Wellington harbour, supplied with power and water from the mainland, has storage areas and accomodation and as long as you have a working boat, (and there are LOTS around here - fuck you'd only really ned a Kayak,) you can travel anywhere in Wellington within about half an hour. It will be my Zombie Island Fortress.

I have this feeling that zombies are unable to use elevators or climb stairs very well, so what about at the top of a tall apartment building? You still get to live in luxury and comfort, block off a few stairwells and how are the zombies going to make their way up to you? Of course getting out for food or similar might present a problem, but I'll consider that during my long time I'll be spending thinking whilst I'm alive. I've got to do something whilst they stumble around the streets!

The local hunting supply shop (which is about 25 km away). Guns, ammo, knives and bows. What more do you need?
Food?

I'd try to steal a cruise ship and ride the seas to Alaska.

There's an armory about 10 miles from my house, manned by the 240something'th engineering division. I'd probably be relatively safe there.

As always, find out what sort of zombies I'm dealing with, and act accordingly.

Mass swarming zombies, a la 28 days later? probably head north, get somewhere as cold and remote as possible.

Standard necrotised flesh zombies? either north and hope they freeze or south and hope they rot too fast to be a threat.

Possibly just barricade somewhere and hide.

Clear out a skyscraper, fill it with supplies, lock it down, then wire the place to blow. I'm not thinking of any particular strategic advantage, just the fact that I've never seen a zombie movie where they've tried to defend a skyscraper while the rest of the city is still infected (Land of the Dead doesn't count). I'd wire it up because I want to go out with a bang. Say, leaping off the roof with zombies behind me and detonating the charges as I fell.

Somewhere in the Great Plains. You'd be able to see the undead coming while they were still miles off, allowing you to prepare/set up traps before being attacked.

Pfft I'm not telling you people. What happens when half of you contract the virus? You'll know my plans!

I'll bet this thread was started by the creator of the zombie virus, in order to learn everyone's hiding place so he knows where to find our delicious delicious brains!

Max Brooks Model:

Probably make short jumps across to either high-mountain Colorado or up to Alaska. Denser areas like Berkeley would be horrible in this one, and California in general would suck.

I might imitate the Oregonians and go up to the middle-coast back areas, though.

28 Days Later Model:

If I'm at home in San Diego when it kicks off, probably either Alaska or just stock the hell up on food and stay in my house. Pretty sure I could get enough vegetables growing in there to keep me going (at the expense of like...90% of my living space, but hey, Oxygen!). I'd have to bar the windows up pretty well and figure out some means of keeping the generator going, though.

If I'm up here in Berkeley, I'd be stupid to try to get out of the area. It'd probably come down to finding some way of organizing as many of my hallmates as possible to lay in enough food for at least 6 months, store it evenly across the floors, demolish the stairs, and crash the elevator. Then basically just try to wait it out, potentially barricading myself in my room with sufficient personal rations if some idiot ****s up and the infected get in.

Area 51, Nevada. What? It is a million miles from anywhere, in the middle of a huge ass desert, and comes pre-equipped with soldiers, guns, vehicles, and an air strip. Second choice is the Research Base in Antarctica.
Im guessing you have never played Resident Evil code veronica because if you did you would know an Antartica base is not the best idea...

I would try and fortify a small gardening supply store, I would bring a year's worth of preprepared food, keep up several barricades, and eventually live off of crops. If you're familiar with the zombie survival guide, you'd know that after 5 years all the zombies die. I would try to get a few of my close friends to join me in the colony I would establish. I would get a compact bow, and about 7,000 arrows from a wal-mart. I'd try and kill any zombie with in a mile of the base so that they don't moan and summon their friends.

Edit:
Also by close friends I mean all the attractive women I know

I'd stay on the road the whole time, like resident evil and that biker gang in the original Dawn of the Dead.
I love the resident evil movies, I think you would have to be out west in order to use that strategy though
