Ah. I love Alyson Avenue. I wish Anette had stayed with them.Marter said:Non-mainstream?
I'll go with Alyson Avenue.
Here's a sample:

Mainstream (In my opinion) is commonly, widely known and played music that most people know of without actually listening to music. See file on "Metallica".Onyx Oblivion said:Is Pearl Jam mainstream?
They're successful, but is that all if takes to be "mainstream"?
I don't know exactly what mainstream means. I think it's used in music threads as an excuse for people to feel cool and post their obscure metal bands.
Some of their earlier stuff is metal-esque. Call 'em what you will, they're still good.RanD00M said:I wouldn't say that Clutch are metal. They're more hard/stoner rock than anything. Kinda in vein of Kyuss.TheAceTheOne said:Specifically, what's your favorite non-mainstream band?
Mine's CLUTCH, an American Metal group. From "Transnational Speedway" to "Strange Cousins from the West", they have yet to disappoint me.
Clutch isn't metal. They started off being included in the hardcore scene after being transplanted from Maryland to NYC. However, they didn't really fit in too well and they actually consider themselves more of a jam band. I will agree with being one of the best bands out there, though.TheAceTheOne said:Specifically, what's your favorite non-mainstream band?

Best Album? Depends on what you're looking for. Heavy stuff by CLUTCH is "Transnational Speedway" and "Impetus". A mix is "Pitchfork and Lost Needles". Some of their newer stuff is groovier ("From Beale Street to Oblivion"), and some is kind of in the middle of the road ("Blast Tyrant").Icarion (aka Stockholm) said:Quick, what's their best album? OT:I geuss Pink Floyd is pretty mainstream rihgt? Well, not anymore, but they were. But "Hurt" (thats the bands name) if we're talking semi-obscure to "huh, what?"
I think it means whatever band has sold out and doesnt put the same interest into their music but people will still buy it. Kinda like those garbage movies that come out but still get people (Eat, Pray, Love; Sex in the City; movies like that) to see on large groups. But you could be right.Onyx Oblivion said:Is Pearl Jam mainstream?

How did you not include Aerials in that?Dark Knifer said:I don't care if you asked for non-mainstream.

Both musically and lyrically. With songs about politics, genocide, personal stories and just plain random fun songs. Which is what makes them easily my favorite band of all time.

Some song.
They're not bad. Personally, I like lesser known bands to some of the ones that get a lot of attention. Kind of like rooting for the underdog in a way, at least to me.The Maddest March Hare said:[HEADING=1]Odium[/HEADING]
Oh fuck yeah..
Although I seriously dislike the way this thread seems to be more of a way of saying "name your favourite band that no one else has heard of so you can feel superior. Lamb Of God are mainstream but FUCK are they good. Why do people always suggest mainstream is the same as bad?
