I'm not a fan, thats just one of the three popular songs by them most people can associate and recognize. SoaD was actually a really popular band that is mainstream by the OP's definition, its just they havent been together in a long time, though I heard they were thinking about getting back together.

They are getting back together. They confirmed it on their website, tickets have gone out and everything. Also, I just assumed you were a fan, sorry about that.

I wish I had a local radio station that played SoaD... Or anything good for that matter. All I got is a christian radio station, which is just preching and worship music and a mostly news station with mediocre music...

Ash- Definitely mainstream in their day now no one has heard of them. Crazy big in Japan though or so I am told.
The Hives- They probably count as mainstream these days.
Faunts- Thank you for this one Bioware.
The Wurzels- 'The Combine Harvester' is our Sweet Home Alabama and quite possibly the greatest song of all time. For Reals.

Do Daft Punk count as Mainstream? Are they even a Band or do they just exist in their own category known as 'sheer awesome'?

Non-mainstream, eh? Hmm... most of my favourite bands are pretty well known, if not mainstream (like Children of Bodom and In Flames). Would Immediate Music count as a "band"?

I couldn't stand Clutch. Their music doesn't resonate with me. I love their album covers though.

Lots of metal/metalish stuff here, so I thought I would mix it up a bit.

Death From Above 1979, awesome band with only drum and bass (yes, just those instruments, not drum and bass as in the genre). Punk/progrock/something/something, check it out.

The National, indierock with a nice acoustic touch, check out the whole album "High Violet", incredibly relaxing.

decided to just post one song from each band, but they both have many awesome songs. Hope you enjoy it :D

Well, here's the station I listen to. They play a lot of rock from the 80s/90s to today, alot of it the grungy kinda bands like Pearl Jam, AiC, Soundgarden, Nirvana.

Though tonights' a bad night because they're also the flagship radio station for the local NHL team the Pittsburgh Penguins, so they're going ot have a radio broadcast of it from 700 pm (-5GMT, eastern north American coast) till probably 1130 pm or so.

They're not for everyone. I like 'em, though.

Overkill. One of the very first thrash metal bands and also the very best one. They've been active since 1980 and they just get better and better, as opposed to other bands that get worse over time.

Here's a song from their latest album, Ironbound;

Edit; I recomend Necroshine if you're intresting in checking the band out. It wasn't my first album with them, but the one that made me really into them.
Other than that, this is the song that made me 'feel the fire'(ahaha, humor) from them;

Just so you know, I live in Australia so this doesn't help me much. It also doesn't help that Australia is not known for it's music, because we don't have that much of it and local radio stations are a joke. Appreciate the thought though.

Bumblefoot. The guitars and vocals are handled by one man (Bumblefoot, and he's a badass singer and makes Steve Vai look amateur) and gets his friend to do the drums. The style is mostly rock, but he's done everything from rap to flamenco,
few of my favorite tunes:
