There are 4 pages of comments so I guess I am already ninja'd. The Chronicles Of Narnia are definitely my favorite, just a little bit more favorite than The Lord Of The Rings. And The Hitchhiker's Guide of course.

I haven't read them yet, but I watched the movies of Night Watch and Day Watch and when I'll have the time I'll read the whole tetralogy too, cause I really loved the story. Oh, and just for the info the tetralogy is Night Watch, Day Watch, Twilight Watch and Final Watch by Sergei Lukyanenko.

Does manga count? Because Genshiken takes the cake for me.

Holy shit, that sounds good.
I'm off to read it!

OT: Seems like there's a lot for me to catch up on in this thread. For now, I'm going to have to go with The Discworld Series, though.

I guess I can understand why a lot of people like WoT so much, but it's not for me. I made it all the way to book nine before I realized I was just wasting my time.

In fact, this is spot on. http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/The_Wheel_of_Time
Oh god, that was bloody brilliant. XD That was my 'funniest thing on the internet', thank you so much for sharing. XD *says this after 10 minutes of recovering.*

I really like the Warhammer 40k books, but insofar as my favorite is concerned I must go with the Wheel of Time.
It is impeccably written and is extremely immersive. Though those with shorter attention spans might think the authors detail to be excessive, I believe it is great. My greatest wish right now is that the next in the series is released. I have heard it was supposed to be the last in the series. I believe it would have to be longer than the Lord of the Rings (which is paltry in comparison) to be completed.

that uncyclopedia is an insult and is completely idiotic, but I guess it admits it straight off.
Lan is nothing like aragorn, except in the throne of his ancestors bit, which he is not interested in.
I admit the uncyclopedia is hilarious if nonsensical.

Wot is also only a wast of time if you are a horribly slow reader. In that case you shouldn't be trying to read at all, and should stick to reactive FPS games.

I'm addicted to WoT, but I don't think it's my favourite.

My favourite would be Robin Hobb's collection of interconnecting trilogies (Realm of Elderlings), The Farseer trilogy, Tawny Man trilogy and I forget the name of the ones with the magic ships, but they're all good.

It blends a serious gritty medieval setting with fantastical elements like magic and dragons quite well. Also Fitz is possibly one of the best written charactetrs I've found, he could easily be a Mary-sue, a bastard son of a prince who is an assasin, warrior and telepathic wizard with a wolf as a companion. But he isn't, I feel genuinely concerned for him and he comes across as an underdog.

Stephen Erikson's Malazan Books of the Fallen.

Also enjoying the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher right now.
Fucking FINALLY someone mentioned the Malazan Books of the Fallen. I haven't read A Song of Ice and Fire, but if anything can compete, it would be Stephen Erickson's series of win.

Toss up between Lord of the Rings, Wheel of Time and the Sword of Truth series methinks.
Yes! I've been reading the sword of truth for a while now but I'm lagging at Soul of the Fire. Mostly because it took soooo long for anything to happen in Temple of Winds. I like the sense that Terry Goodkind provides that his books are not completely predictable, which is a rarity in most books that I have read and makes it one of my favourite series. I haven't read Wheel of Time yet but with all the positive comments, i'm looking forward to it.

One series that I adore is the Kyôgokudô Series by Natsuhiko Kyogoku and only wish that more of his books will be translated or that I will suddenly be able to read fluent japonese.

You forgot the other one because it's terrible = P. JK, I just couldn't get in to it. Have you read the new ones? Rain Wild Chronicles, takes place slightly after the tawny man. Also she wrote a trilogy called the Soldiers Son. Nothing to do with that universe but I think I liked it more than the other universe. And would LOVE an exploration of it.

Choosing a favorite series is impossible. The Artemis Fowl series is what got my hooked on books though. Going through these pages, I'm just like wow, these are all great series. Rangers Apprentince, Dresdon Files, The Pendragon series, The First Law series.

Darren Shan, Mark Chadbourn, Karren Milller, Simon R. Green (The guy that wrote the nightside and man with the gold torc series.) all great writers. Some others, Chronicles of the Necromancer and Brent Weeks series The Night Angel Trilogy were amazing. I couldn't put down The Night Angel Trilogy until I finished it. Sorry about the long post.

I haven't yet gotten into Rain Wild Chronicles yet. I read Soldier Son, it was good but I didn't really like it that much, Nevare was a well developed character, but not very fun to read about all the crap he went through. I didn't like the way he was bound by fate so much, whereas Fitz was the complete opposite the only person who could smash destiny as the Catalyst, the creator of heros.

I really want a sequel/prequel that takes place between Farseer and Tawny man honestly, Nighteyes was a great character and a story about him and Fitz's adventures in say Bingtown and other nearby places would be interesting (he had a very close-lipped mention of traveling there when he talked to the fool). An interesting theme could be how he's underestimated as a mere barbarian by the Bingtown residents, because of his rough clothing, his archaic longsword and giant dog (who are they too know what a Wolf looks like), before his princely nature and skills in subterfuge are revealed.
