Tom Clancy; although reading them through a 3rd time will annoy you since he describes everything in the same style.

I highly recommend the book: "Bravo Two Zero" by a former SAS member, or Eric Haney's "Inside Delta Force". They may not be 100% accurate in the events that take place but they're a real great read. I couldn't put either of them down. The Brit has such a great sense of humor, too.

I kind of enjoyed the movie because of the idea it presented, maybe I'll have to pick up the book someday if I can.
Wow, if you liked that movie you will eat the book alive. Good luck getting ahold of it though. Stanislaw Lem is polish, and he wrote it while the Commies were making things hell for the Poles. He had to publish it himself, and very few copies made it through the Iron Curtain, much less translated versions. I got lucky and found it in a used bookstore. You could try to find an electronic copy online, I found Roadside Picnic (Stalker) that way. Eastern European sci-fi was great back in the 70s.

Lemony Snicket's A series of unfortunate events Series

Most annoying ending I have ever read.
Cannot stand that series, I am sorry, I hate it. And I read it, so I'm not judging by the cover :p

'Good Omens' by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman!

And also probably 'Through a Window' by Jane Goodall.

Gulliver's Travels by Swift.
There's nothing better than being told that it's a children's book.

The Satanic bible, and The Devils Notebook are two of myfavorites. Also the really obscure JRRT books... like The Silmarilion and Children of Hurin, They give so much more life to Middle Earth. World War Z was different and good. Finaly... I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell was SOOOOO funny.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton holds the crown but his novel Prey and Stephen King's novella The Mist are close contenders.

You're really going to have to narrow this down to genres for me, because I read a hell of a lot. Somone lays out some genres, I'll be happy to oblige.
What's your favourite thriller? How about horror?

Mine was always The Long Patrol by Brian Jacques. I read that one so many times I had to tape it back together because the binding fell apart.

Insomnia by Stephen King.
I loved the Dark Tower series, but Insomnia just sealed my love for the author.

Trying to be original, which whittled away I am Legend, Chuck Palhniuk, and HP Lovecraft.

Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. It's the anti-space opera. Contends that even if we found aliens, we would never be able to communicate with them in a meaningful manner, or even recognize them as sentient. The alien being a metaphor for God, of course. Kind of like tragedy with the Buggers taken to logical extremes.
I've read Cyberiad by Stanislaw Lem but not Solaris -- how do they compare to one another? Have you read them both? Which do you like better if so?

Blood Meridian - Cormac McCarthy. Incredible.
Same questions here -- read The Road by McCarthy but not Blood Meridian.

What's Cyberiad about? Cause it's on my list now. I was also wondering how Blood Meridian compares to The Road. I loved the Road, speed read it in six hours. All I know about Blood Meridian is there's some fellow called the Judge...
