It is important because he has a beard.

You know, for as much as I tried, I just couldn't bring myself to like that book. Just like Of Mice and Men. Maybe I'm weird...la-le-lu-li-lo said:The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
Urggh...please don't bring that up. That movie was shite. It's like the Lifetime channel made Event Horizon. It contains absolutely none of the good, or even essential parts of the novel. You only see the world-ocean-entity for about five minutes, while about a quarter of the novel devoted to just describing its structures and habits.Slaanax said:Is there a movie based on the book? Solaris by Stanislaw Lem. It's the anti-space opera. Contends that even if we found aliens, we would never be able to communicate with them in a meaningful manner, or even recognize them as sentient. The alien being a metaphor for God, of course. Kind of like tragedy with the Buggers taken to logical extremes.
I didn't particularly care for Of Mice and Men either, but I adore Gatsby. It's not the characters or even the story that gets me, it's the message about the American dream, but I won't bore you with going on and on about it.Gxas said:You know, for as much as I tried, I just couldn't bring myself to like that book. Didn't like that ending? I thought it was kind of ballsy myself, and it definitely wasn't the happy ending I was afraid of. And while the overall quality of writing does go down during the series, I thought the last book pulled out of the nosedive nicely. It really gave a sense of things grinding down to an inevitable end. But the author self insertion was pretty much the low point of the series. Mindblowingly egotistical, lazy-almost a shark jump, really.LordNue said:Except the ending. EDIT: And the last few books. Best series of books ever, and by far his best work, IMO.

Okay, obligatory genres. =)MelasZepheos said:You're really going to have to narrow this down to genres for me, because I read a hell of a lot. Somone lays out some genres, I'll be happy to oblige.
I've only read the first five books of the trilogy, have you read the sixth? I wanna know if it's worth getting, or if I should leave the late, great Dentarthurdent blown to smithereens.Jamienra said:The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy Series
13th book is the 14th book, there is also Lemony Snicket's Unauthorized Autobiography, which is less a biography (auto or otherwise) and more a who's who of cryptic background referencesTheNumber1Zero said:??? I ask this because I have a terrible memory, but exactly where does the 14th one take place?Clantau said:To be honest the ending left me feeling nothing... The kind of nothing where you say 'Is that it?', I mean personally I loved every book before the 14th one, yes I said 14thTheNumber1Zero said:Lemony Snicket's A series of unfortunate events Series
Most annoying ending I have ever read.
