PS2, easily. gamecube had a few exclusives that i loved, but the ps2 just had the numbers. many great games, and backward compatibility.

I am going to say the SNES, but close runner ups would be the Gamecube (which I think I am going to find one at a garage sale or something this summer, they are so easy to transport), and the PS2 for the shear volume of games it had. I also have a special place in my heart for the 64, as it had some of my most favorite games of all time.

Hmm since PC's not a console guess it's going to be the good old Sega Saturn so many great old school JRPG's not like the trash they put out these days.

Honorable runner up being the Playstation.

I'd have to say the Gamecube with probably the SNES as a close second. Thinking back those are the 2 eras I remember the most fondly.

SNES is my favorite, followed by the Playstation 2(Because I can play all the old classic PS1 games on it as well as the entire lineup for the PS2).

PS2.
Or my Mega Drive that to do this day remains 90% functional, sometimes requires blowing on the cartridge. Unlike my then bleeding edge PS3 that broke after 10 months.

Your favorite device that plays video games? That's a bit silly of a question to ask, it's not like they do much on their own. I can see how one might prefer a controller and a game and such but console? That's just like saying "my favorite VCR was ..."

Well I can certainly say the 360 is my least favorite of them all, I take great care of my stuff have a lot of older systems and seven of the dumb things croaked on me. Absolutely infuriating.

64 being a runner up because of the crappy controller and cart format that forced a lot of games to have very blurry textures.

I'll say Playstation is my 'favorite' because it had a lot of wonderful JRPGs that I still like today, that being impressive since most JRPGs now-a-days are angsty messes. The controllers were neat and Memory Cards really were awesome for the time.

I'm not sure I've said as single positive thing here hmm...I'm glad my Genesis+Sega CD never ever gave me trouble...unlike my fucking Xbox 3-*dragged off stage with a cane*
My MegaDrive/Genesis still lives to this day too, first generation one too, and it's not been treat particularly kindly. Unlike current gen which all seem to like dying.

I'm gonna go Dreamcast. Full disclosure, I grew up a Sega fanboy. I had a Master System while everybody else had a NES. That said, if you liked fighting games, the Dreamcast was a monster. I loved the 2K games series and the rpgs it had were always fun. I miss that little machine. It died too soon.

You have to adjust for nostalgia. Yahtzee did a good piece stating how much nostalgia plays a part of our perceptions of older games. This current generation is really tweaking gameplay to improve on its ancestors.

So, with that in mind:
Best times I've had on a system: NES. Final Fantasy 1, Zelda 1 & 2, Faxanadu, Battle for Olympus, heck, the Mario game that came with the system. Good times.
Best all around console this generation: My Wii collects dust unless I'm bringing it to a party. It's a very close race between Xbox 360 and PS3. I'm going to give it to PS3 as, with the Bluray player built in, it is a good console to have more than one of and Uncharted 2, so far, gets my vote for Game of the Generation.

Yeah I'm pretty stumped why anyone likes current day consoles with the ads, fees to use certain things, ridiculous lawsuits.

Remember back then? PS2, PSOne, N64, SNES , Dreamcast, Genesis, where things made sense? You got a game and that was that, there wasn't constant ripping off, crazy weird DRM and console lives being shorter than a year? Those were fun times. Now I have to agree to an update of Terms of Service to play games....right. Great.

Super Nintendo, hands down. I played that thing into the ground, and it certainly was more durable than the original NES.

Gamecube hands down. It had the best controller I've ever used, an awesome start up screen, a little customisable face plate and Smash Bro's Melee. Holy shit it was amazing. Still want to pick another one up.

Wii. Why?

Because I can play all the old Gamecube games, with my old Gamecube controllers, and get the games really cheap (In case you haven't guessed, I loved the Gamecube). I could also get NES, SNES, N64 and other games, which are made even better with a Gamecube controller. And there were more than enough decent Wii games in order to ustify me buying it. There were no bullshit online passes, there was no vulgar community of 12-year-olds and 20-year-olds who acted like 12-year-olds, there wasn't an endless stream of firmware updates or apps or advertisements. Every game that came with it was actually DONE, and while the "big" games were more scarce, there was a lot more variety in the types of games on it.

TL;DR: All the perks of the Gamecube, able to play older games, and none of the bullshit that came with this new generation. Yes, there were negatives to it, but the good outweighed the bad

2nd place goes to the PS2. Because it was awesome.

Xbox 360. Seriously, the weight of games the PS2 had can't compete with the technological might of today's consoles. I can't think of a single game from a previous generation that still holds up, with the possible exception of 007: Everything or Nothing.

Gamecube. I have plenty of fond memories of playing awesome games on that console.
