Not sure if this could be considered a cover but Marilyn Manson's cover of This is Halloween.

Also I really liked Children of Bodom's cover of Rebel Yell.

Dave Grohl's "Why not to cover Stairway" cover of Stairway to Heaven. (His words, not mine. I love it!)

I was with my buddy who I gig around with and I got a brilliant idea. Let's do a stripped down, soulful acoustic version of Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. He goes; "Like Chris Cornell did it?" my response was "whaa...? Who's Chris Cornell?" (not a Soundgarden fan) and he showed me this;

[sub]He basically made it impossible to cover this song ever again, since his version is So. Damn. Good.[/sub]

There are a lot of good covers out there, but my favourite has got to be Disturbed's Land of Confusion.

Really? I never knew they did a cover of that. Youtube vid?
You're kidding. Really? The band is a one hit wonder and their hit was a cover. As a band, you can't get more pathetic than that.

"Somewhere Beyond the Sea" is actually a cover of an older French song called "La Mer" so I'd have to pick that.

And you've done what? Just kidding.

And yes, Disturbed's cover is one of the best. Most covers fall short of the originals, but they managed to stay true to the song yet give it an edge.

K...I'm gonna add 'Seconded' to Alien Ant Farm's 'Smooth Criminal' and Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' ... and throw in Marilyn Manson's version of "Sweet Dreams" ... and this is from a *SERIOUS* Eurythmics fangirl here...

Nightwish's version of 'The Phantom of the Opera'.

Dark Moor's cover of 'Halloween' (originally by Helloween).

Iced Earth's cover of 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' (Iron Maiden).

And last but not least, Machinae Supremacy's cover of 'Freestyler' (BOMFUNK MC, or somethin').
