Just a question, am I the only one who finds it a little bit unuseual that we see potential greatness (or suckage) in games based on who it was made by?

It's simmilar to what occurs in some films where the ad will contain the phrase 'from the firector of *insert movie here*' or 'from the writer of *insert sit-com here*', as if that suddenly means this film is going to be at least as good as the film they did before.

I guess I should explain why:
Both Valve and Tale of Tales are working to create unconventional games.
Valve isn't too hard to explain- I have never met ANYONE who doesn't like 'em.
As a burgeoning artist, I feel a kinship with Tale of Tales. Its all about the art.

Yes.

I'm not a big fan of zombie shooters but i am sure that Left4dead will probably be good because Valve made it and they put a lot of effort into their games.

Also we can't expect anything great from EA, because they suck and each time i see their name branded on a game i frown.
Valve have made bad games, Half Life 1 for example, was inferior in every way to Red Faction (which I believe was released a year or two before) and playing Counterstrike convinced me to get Unreal Tournament.

EA have made good games in the past: Dead Space (for starters), Army of Two, Marvel Nemesis: rise of the Imperfects and Timesplitters: Future Perfect.

I'd say Valve, but that's obvious. Also Telltale Games, for their customer interaction. They regularly post on their forums, and even sometimes take input from posters. Also, if someone has been in a really annoying situation with the purchasing of their downloadable games, they have been known to just give out a game key to someone in one of those situations.

There are plenty of GAMES that I like, but I don't necessarily like all their developers.

Ubisoft - because they gave me the only game series I ever enjoyed enough to play all the way through. Splintercell though ubi-Montreal was the best for the series
Speaking of Splinter Cell(chaos theory=awesome), when is the new one finally going to come out? I've seen so little of it.

I'm gonna be trendy and say that Valve rocks and EA sucks a fat one!

Marvel who? Rise of the what?
Some crappy, glitched to hell 3D free running fighting game where melee combat was nigh useless because throwing cars at the enemy was much more efffective.
As for my favourite company - Capcom. Not only did they make my 2 favourite series (Devil May Cry and Mega Man), but they make a point of challenging players and rewarding them for playing skillfully. Also, I like the grade ranking system (where S apparently comes before A in the alphabet) they've implemented in some games.

Valve: One of the few companies that has consistently produced incredible games for most of it's existence, they also created Steam, which kicks ass and they created the Half Life Series

Bungie. I have never seen a company more devoted to its fans than Bungie. This isn't that kind of fake devotion that you see going around, this is real community love. They listen and not just by making you pay for a map pack.

I'll use an example. This kid named Nathaniel had this 360 that he took everywhere. He had it signed by a dozens of big names in the industry, including some guys from Red vs. Blue. He even had a sweet drawing of Master Chief on it done by a pro. Well, it got RROD'd. Nathaniel reluctantly sent it in to Microsoft, explaining his situation and pleading that they not replace or wash it. When he got it back, it was washed clean. Not replaced or stolen: washed. You could see Sharpie smears, and if anyone knows anything about sharpies: they're really hard to erase. Nathaniel posted his story on the internet.

Within a few days of this posting, he got a huge package from Bungie. They sent him action figures, the Legendary edition of Halo 3, wall-stickers, the soundtrack signed by Martin O'Donnell, a shirt, a couple things not available at the Bungie.net store, and the Legendary edition helmet signed by the entirety of the Bungie staff. This is only really, really amazing because there was no reason for Bungie to do this. They could have just ignored it and moved on, but they decided to care for a fan. Or they could have just sent him an action figure and a post-it note that said "sorry" but they went all-out.

Microsoft sent the kid a pretty hefty package later, including a 360 signed by all of original signers and Bill Gates. But they owed him, Bungie didn't. For that, I eternally respect Bungie. I bought a T-shirt the day I heard that story and sent them a really nice letter.
