Relic: Dawn of War, Comapny of Heroes, Homeworld...need I say more?

Granted, their support for dawn of war has been unforgivably abysmal at best, but the games themselves were awesome.

Valve because of Steam and their attention to detail and level design flow (The test he hell out of it)

Relic because it resparked my interest in RTS.

I'd have to say I'm going with Ubisoft

From Rayman to Fallout. They've crossed genre and made sure they left a kickass and memorable game in each one. They have a long history and have always been a strong company for gaming.

Second place would have to go to Blizzard, they've made the pinnacle of gaming in every genre they made a game in.

Shoutouts go to:
Epic - long list of great games
Westwood Studios: C&C Red Alert and Tiberium Sun. Epic games in both story and playthrough.

I'm going to be different and say Criterion Games for Burnout Paradise and Incognito for Warhawk.

Warhawk's been given support, patches and new maps/vehicles since its release, all of them are superbly balanced and has provided a roaring community for the game.

Criterion has done much the same for Burnout with new cars, a nighttime cycle and motorcycles added recently but it's done all of this for free. It's this sort of commitment for the customer that would persuade me to buy a game from that company.

Bethesda, they are one of the few companies still utterly DEVOTED to the hardcore gamers among us. They make a really high quality game knowing that it will only appeal to a certain type of gamer, but they don't care, as long as they make enought money to survive they just keep on pumping out stuff for their loyal fans unlike some other companies(I'm talking about YOU EA!).

Atlus: for localizing some of the quirkiest (and most enjoyable) games I've ever played. Oh and for the Megami Tensei series.

I would have to say Insomniac games is my number 1 favorite. Ratchet and Clank was one of the first games I ever bought for my PS2, and also in my top 3 games. Valve is in the top 5, thanks to Portal, one of the best games EVER! I also enjoy Criterion's work, Burnout Paradise is great, and 30.00 bucks US for a game and all the extra content they have made of it is one of the best deals out there.

former Lucas Art for their great adventure games

Double Fine, because Tim Schafer is god
Seconded! "The Dig" is one of the best adventure games ever in my opinion. Physconauts is also an amazing game that everyone should play. download it off XBL NOW!

The games company I'm least irritated by atm is Capcom for the Phoenix Wright Series and Megaman games.

I might have said Lionhead... although I liked Fable 2 the way it was implimented and handled was a huge disaster, it started with limited edition cuts, numerous glitchs and the release of the limited edition codes for free was the biggest joke ever.

I'm not too happy with the standards of development now where they will rush development and generally shaft their fans and customers.

Odworld Inhabitants. Yeah, the don't make games anymore, but I'm looking forward to their Citizen Siege project they're working on for 2009.

Bioware, for making fun RPGs like KoTOR, Mass Effect, and Sonic Chronicles.

Atlus, for making most of the other rpgs I play (Disgaea, Growlanser, etc.).

Naughty Dog, because they made the Crash Bandicoot which is why I got a PSone.

I'll try to keep this under five thousand words if I can:

Ascaron Entertainment GmbH. Germany loves its nonviolent builder-type games, and nobody does that genre better than Ascaron. Patrician 3 is the deepest trade-sim/city-builder I've ever played, although Port Royale 2 comes close, and Will Wright himself should take notes about how to do a city builder correctly. They also did Darkstar One (which is either an updated Elite or a single-player EVE Online depending on your perspective), Sacred (yes, it's a shameless Diablo clone but it's a GOOD shameless Diablo clone), and a couple other games I'm sure I'm forgetting. Their new partnership with cdv Entertainment has produced the "share and try it" DRM model in Sacred 2, which may well be the wave of the future. How they talked cdv (which used to use StarForce back in the day) into a less-restrictive DRM model is a mystery, albeit one with a delightful end result.

Paradox Interactive: You could argue that all their games are the same. You'd have a damn good argument. But when you think about it, D&D, GURPS, and Warhammer 40K are all variations on a theme too, and they're all a blast to play. Europa Universalis and its many spawn (Crusader Kings, Victoria, Hearts of Iron...) take the periods of history they cover and tweak the Europa engine to do things that would be out of place in the other games, keeping the history (or the alt-history) accurate and interesting. People have even made mods for Vicky and HoI to give the starting conditions in the Harry Turtledove novels. It's strategy gamer heaven and nobody does it like Paradox. Throw in their Stardock-like approach to DRM and you've got a winner.

Bethesda Softworks: Daggerfall. Morrowind. Oblivion. Fallout 3. No further questions, Your Honor.

Valve, for obvious reasons (Half-life 1&2 + episodes and Steam)
BioWare, Mass Effect and KOTOR - great RPG experiences
Blizzard, WoW addict in recovery - but chose them because of Diablo 1&2

Well...to be honest if I don't say blizzard the grizzly bear behind me is gonna shoot me...

Other than that I'd have to say:

Valve - half life and portal are awesome
Bethesda - oblivion was great, gameplay-wise fallout 3 was pretty awesome
Rare - the kid in me never died, it was just stunted horribly by vodka
Hot Head - its done alright, which is better than I can say for quit a few game companies
Lionhead - I liked Bethesda, do I need more explanation?
BioWare - if your still looking for an explanation go read one of the other 20 posts that listed it...
